Game Over is a notice given when certain conditions are met that end gameplay in an unfavorable manner, such as when an entire party has been ghosted or turned to stone. The player is then forced back to the title screen to begin a new game or to continue from the last save made. Because the player also loses any experience or items acquired since the game was saved, a Game Over is generally considered undesirable.

Appearances

Final Fantasy Adventure and Adventures of Mana

The original version simply displays the text "Sumo fell." in a dialog box while some music plays. Pressing the A or B Button on the Game Boy unit will pull the player back to the title screen, from which the player can continue from their last saved state.

In the remake, "You fall to the ground." is displayed. Tapping the screen or pressing a face button will return the player to the title, allowing them to resume from the last checkpoint created. The player will have retained all stat values and items in the moments prior to fainting (e.g. if Sumo had 1 HP left when he fell, the Quicksave created will leave him with the 1 HP).

Secret of Mana

When the HP of all Party Members becomes 0, it becomes Game Over and is returned to the Title Screen.

Trials of Mana

When the HP of all Party Members becomes 0 or all Party Members become Petrify Status in Battle, it becomes Game Over and is returned to the Title Screen.

Dawn of Mana

When Keldric's HP falls to 0, it is Game Over, and the player has the option of starting over from the beginning of the chapter in play.
