Shela is a minor character in Trials of Mana.

History[edit]

Background[edit]

Shela was the daughter of the Elfin Elder and princess of Dior. Fifteen years prior to the events of Trials of Mana, a young cleric named Leron who was visiting the secluded village was smitten by the elvin princess and the two of the conceived a child, going against the law preventing a human and an elf to marry. Both the Priest of Light, the father of Leron, and the Elfin Elder did not consent to this, afraid that this would shorten their life spans. Leron and Shela did not care and she eloped from Dior with Leron. The young Charlotte did not get to see her parents for long, sadly, as they departed from this world when she was a toddler. To alleviate his guilt from abandoning his son, His Eminence took into himself to raise the young half-elf under his care and she left the elf village for the Temple of Light in Wendel. To prevent any further tragedy, the Elfin Elder sealed Dior from humans, letting only elves to know how to traverse the Lampbloom Woods. The couple were buried next to each other at the entrance of the village near Lampbloom Woods.

Trials of Mana[edit]

Leron and Shela are seen in a dream sequence in Charlotte's opening gambit, where the half-elf deperately tries to reach for them as they vanish before her eyes. Their sepulture are later depicted as Charlotte learns the truth about her past in the elf village.

In the post-game Chapter 7 exclusive to the HD remake, Charlotte enquires the Elfin Elder about a mysterious Hope Sphere capable of letting her reach Class 4. The elder reveals that it was this very object that allowed Leron and Shela to overcome the Elfin & Human law and make they union a reality. The Elfin Elder sealed the artefact deep within the Woods of Wandara in order to prevent any more tragedy of that nature to occur. He is surprised to hear Charlotte seeking it, but promised not to deny someone's heart ever again, and so accepts her request. Charlotte and her companions head into the Woods of Wandara, eventually finding the elusive orb on the ground. The party is however attacked by a Revenant and his horde of undeads that the team must defeat before claiming their price. The spirits of Charlotte's parents appear behind them, saying what they see new is part of the couple's life force absorbed by the Hope Sphere when they used forbidden magic to seal their union. Shela feels sad not being able to hug her daughter, but both parents are proud of how she turned out to be. Shela claims she never regretted choosing her father and, as their souls depart, they promise to continue watching over her. Back in Dior, Charlotte mourns over their grave one last time, before continuing her journey.
