Background
Background
Since time immemorial, Land Umber roamed the land of Fa'Diel along with its seven other siblings, causing chaos and destruction on their path. When the Mana Goddess came upon Fa'Diel, she wielded whe Mana Sword to the horrible beasts and sealed them into their respective Mana stones. Then, she transformed into the Mana Tree deep inside the Sanctuary where the blade laid on her knotted feet. Meanwhile, the benevodons waited in slumber for aeons until Mana power began to wane as the Mana Tree started to wither.

Heroes of Mana
The shift in Mana was further accelerated by evil factions around the world longing to wield the Mana Sword's power. An emissary of the Goddess was sent from the Sanctuary to the human world in hope of finding someone suitable to defeat the enemy and restore the world back in shape.

A Chosen one was selected by Faerie to gather the elementals and wielding the fabled blade against the evil forces who sought to release Mana power contained within each stone to open the portal to the Sanctuary of Mana. Aided by their comrades, their ultimately failed to prevent their enemy to use the sword to break the seals on the Mana Stones, ushering a new era of despair. Faerie pleaded the party to defeat each benevodon before they combine into an indestructible chimera and they started venturing all over Fa'Diel to locate them.

Land Umber was found deep within the gem valley of Daria, where he attacked the party with herculean might. Fortunately, the earth benevodon was eventually defeated.

The Land Umber's Ring can be found near the benevodon's lair in the remake. It reduces earth-elemental damage inflincted by enemies by half.

The recent Mana Surge turned Land Umber into a Malevodon by combining it with Fiegmund to create Landmund. The monstrosity was fought in the Ice Citadel under the watchful eye of the Mana Lord, but was eventually defeated, turning the two benevodons into their original states.

Some time after the incident, Gnome told the protagonist to ask Land Umber about various topics concerning the world. The hero headed back to where they had fought the Malevodon to meet with the spirit of the earth and had their questions answered.

At the end of the game, the eight benevodons joined forces to seal Illusia Isle from being found in the mortal realm. It is hinted that the island is was becamed of the Sanctuary of Mana in Trials of Mana.

An optional quest only accessible by completing the game makes the protagonist warp deep into the Cosmic Rift to meet with the eight benevodons for the last time. They gift them the ultimate Gem called Mystic Blessing.

In bonus mission 42, it is mysteriously released from its stone. Gnome, Valda, Loki, and Belgar arrive on the scene and manage to take advantage of its newly risen state to force it back in the stone. ==Trivia==
Stub
* Like many other benevodons, Land Umber's name appears as a month of the year in Sword of Mana. He is only mentioned once in the game as the protagonist reads Lord Granz's 3rd diary inside Granz Castle and is spelled Landamber.
