Brownie Brown Inc. was a Nintendo-funded and owned video game development studio based in Tokyo, Japan. It was founded on June 30, 2000. They are best known for their work on the Professor Layton games. Brownie Brown was responsible for the development of two Mana games, Sword of Mana and Heroes of Mana, released in 2003 and 2007 respectively.
The company itself consists of many ex-Square artists. At least two of its founders (Kameoka Shinichi and Kouji Tsuda) had previously worked on the Mana series for the Game Boy and Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Brownie Brown's first original title was the Game Boy Advance title Magical Vacation, which was released in 2001 exclusively in Japan.
As of February 2013, the studio changed its name to 1-UP Studio, but is yet to develop any Mana games under this title.
