The mysterious knight first appeared during the first chapter of season one, where he emerged from a vortex after the Harvester and their friends rescued Baashear from being kidnapped by knitwits. He relentlessly pursued the protagonist for seemingly no other reason than to defeat him. The hero safelty made it back to the Sanctuary unscathed thanks to Baashear, leaving the black knight to leave in his turn without saying a word.
The mysterious knight first appeared during the first chapter of season one, where he emerged from a vortex after the Harvester and their friends rescued Baashear from being kidnapped by knitwits.

He later returned at the end of chapter four, when he ambushed the Harvester, Riesz and Hawkeye during the ascent to their echo's Sanctuary of Mana. Despite him sporting wings, he was outmatched by his opponent and was forced to retreat. He nonetheless claimed neither the hero nor the goddess would have the holy blade.

His third encounter with the Harvester was at the end of chapter 7, when they were about to return to the Sanctuary. As the Hero approached this echo's Mana Tree when he swept up from nowhere to knock them out by surprise. They later woke up inside a Dark Echo by unleashing a horde of knitwits in their path. He later was fought at the end of a monster-filled path, where he engaged the protagonist in battle once again. He reasoned with them, questioning their motive to obtain the sword and claiming he was chosen by the sword. He then proceeds to transform into a monstrous centaur and spar with the protagonist. He eventually falls, calling Dema's name in vain before vanishing.

The Ebon Knight suddently reappears during chapter 6 of the second season right after the Harvester and crew defeat Gossamare and release the wind spirit Sylphid. He faces Diospyros telling him Dema is afraid of his Mana swordsman since she knows her actions are unforgivable. He adds Diospyros is the knight fated to carry out what is right. This brings out enough courage in the young man's heart to embrace his fate and ask the Ebon Knight for his armor. The black knight accepts and merges with the young swordsman.
