| Ludgar is a high-ranking officer in the beastman troops of Ferolia. Upon learning from His Majesty they are to invade the neighboring city of Jadd before taking the Holy City of Wendel, he was appointed leader of the operations and rallies his men to give a rousing meeting before commencing the assault. During Kevin's opening gambit he belittles the young prince for being picked instead of him, unlike other fellow beastmen who act more sympathetic to him.

|
| |
| He is seen again during Jadd's occupation, declaring the city belonging to beastmen. He strongly suggests the populace to comply lest they use force to quell any resistance. If Angela, Duran, Hawkeye, or Riesz try their hands on any beastmen, including Ludgar, they will be overpowered and wake up in the inn instead. If Kevin tries to talk to the beastmen, they will be surprised to see him here, some thinking he might be on a secret mission under the king's orders. The young prince will hide from Ludgar, however, if interacted.

| The commander beastman will then raid Astoria at night while the Chosen is conversing with Faerie, leaving no survivors behind but a lone dog. He then sets its eyes on Wendel whom he attempt to conquer once the magic barrier protecting the city near the entrance to Cascade Cavern is lifted. He thanks Faerie from breaking the seal then capture the protagonists by throwing them in one of Jadd's prison cells. Fortunately, the Priest of Light raises another barrier around the city at the cost of his health, rendering him bedridden for the rest of the game.

| Ludgar is then seen when the party is attempting to find Luna in the Chartmoon Tower, he and Goremand have just finished off some invading Altena sorcerers, he leaves and lets Goremand take the souls of the fallen mages, but comes back upon sensing Kevin's presence (who will be there as an NPC if not in the party). He then changes into his werewolf from and attacks the party but is mortally wounded.

| Ludgar, defeated, has a heart to heart with Kevin. He reveals his hatred of the prince had nothing to do with him being half human; it was his attitude. Ludgar desired to be the strongest and yearned for Gauser to teach him the martial art techniques he taught Kevin, but he was only a beast guard. Worse Kevin would often run from fighting and was content to hide from everyone in the woods with Karl, which offended Ludgar's sensibilities and made him swear he wouldn't lose to such a cowardly prince. Kevin reveals that Ludgar was strong enough to be king himself which makes him happy. He hopes that he can fight Kevin again in his next life and tells not to lose to anyone before then and dies.

| Then Luna appears having witnessed the whole thing. Kevin asks her to save him, but she can only fulfill his wish, and reincarnates him back into a baby. Ludgar then goes into the woods to live with the beasts for his infancy (which was beastmen custom) and Kevin vows to honor their promise.

| |
| When Kevin makes peace with his father, her references Ludgar on how he still needs to learn how to be a proper prince for his people and is waiting for the day Ludgar comes to challenge him again.

| |
| In the HD remake, Ludgar can teach Kevin the Beast Roar Chain Ability should he be in the party.
| |
|
| |
| In the remake exclusive end scene; Kevin is shown to have taken baby Ludgar as his student and is currently teaching him the martial arts techniques he had so desired.
