Rise of Mana script

Opening scene

That place was called heaven,
On its luminous surface a giant tree grew, called Lustera
On its dark side, the roots of the giant tree grew, called Obscura
A mysterious world, divided into two opposing sides, front and back
With the angels living in Lustera
The demons roaming in Obscura
Under the command of the celestial king and the demon king
They waged an eternal war
Nobody remembers why they relentlessly fought
Angels craved light and Demons despised it
Lustera sought to overtake Obscura and fill it with light
Angels feared darkness, whereas Demon reveled in it
Obscura wanted to plunge Lustera into obscurity.
Nowadays, the only difference between the two factions
Is wether you believe one to be good or not.
The battle still waged on....
Only that fact remains certain.

Prologue

[CUTSCENE STARTS] (The camera pans on the Lustera, with the Angel and Demon characters selected by the player sword fighting.)

Angel: As expected, prime archdemon! You are the only demon who can launch an attack on Lustera over and over again!

Demon: You're the one holding me down over and over again, prime archangel!

(The two continue brawling, as a faerie circles around them.)

Demon: Stupid familiar!! Don't get in our way!

Familiar: No need to worry here! If you get caught in the Mana flow there, you'll fall on the mortal realm!!

(The Demon pushes the Angel near the edge of the battle arena.)

Angel: ......I'll handle this.

Demon: No way, you weren't planning on making me fall into the Mana waterfall, right? I'm not that scary, alright. I can be a nice demon!

Angel: Ha!

(The Angel pushes the Demon away.)

Demon: Don't worry, I'll settle this!

Angel: Make me! I can't keep toying with you forever!

(A strange dust of light surround them both.)

Angel: What is this light!? My body...... I can't move my body!

Demon: Hey, familiar! What's going on here!?

Familiar: The waterfall of Mana......is calling......?

Demon: Huh!? What?

(The Angel and Demon are lifted away by the mysterious dust.)

Angel: No....... Were' being dragged...... into the Mana waterfall!

(The two fighters are transformed into balls of light and sent plummeting down the waterfall. They are found unconscious at its base while Li'l Cactus looks at them from afar. The Cactus tries to wake the Angel up, but fails to do so. When he tries to do the same for the Demon, they suddenly stand up.)

Demon: Who are you?

(Li'l Cactus scurries away.)

Demon: Where are we!?

(The Angel wakes up, stunned to see the Demon next to them.)

Demon: Prime Archangel! What's this place and why did you bring me here?!

Angel: Hey, that's MY line! What is this place?!

(Both kneel down, leaking out the mysterious dust.)

Demon: I see, is this the human world? It seems we got caught up in the Mana waterfall.

Angel: That's no good...... If we denizens of the Celestial Land stay in the human world for too long, we will slowly lose our strength.

Demon: Damn. It's so stupid. Are we reduced to end like this?

Angel: I have no other choice...... Hey, times like this calls for a temporary truce. We need to cooperate.

Demon: What?

Angel: Let me merge with you.

Demon: Merge!? Me and you? Are you serious?

Angel: At this rate, we'll both die. If we can assimilate and complement each other's life force......

Demon: If you assimilate, your mind might become lost if we screw this up!

Angel: We both know that assimilation can be dangerous...... but it's better than doing nothing.

Demon: A devil and an angel teaming up...... that's a first.

Angel: The feeling is mutual.

(The Angel fuses with the Demon, leaving only the Demon in sight. They are a bit shocked by the transformation.)

Demon: It's okay...... everything's okay. Nothing seems to have changed, but...... Huh? What happened to the Prime Archangel?

Angel: *Don't worry. I'm inside you.*

Demon: Oh, you're alive, then. That's too bad.

Angel: *We can also switch places between us.*

(The Demon turns into the Angel.)

Angel: There.

Demon: This is so creepy...... But, what do we do now? How can we return to the Celestial Land?

Angel: Let's get off the mountain for now.

(The Angel looks at the waterfall.)

Angel: Perhaps that waterfall is the Mana waterfall. If we find a way to ascend it, we may be able to return to the Celestial Land. But with our current strength, it's impossible to do so. Will we gain our powers back? Or, should I look for another method...... First, we need to gather information.

Demon: *Hey, hey! You seems so carefree about all this, what's up with that? You sure you can handle it?*

Angel: ......

(The Angel slumps down in defeat.)

Demon: *Well, then. It sure can't be helped. In that case, let's get the heck out of here.*

Angel: Uh, yeah.

[CUTSCENE ENDS]

(Further down the road.)

[CUTSCENE STARTS]

Angel: If we pass through here, we'll be a the foot of the mountain.

Demon: *What's that over there?*

(A familiar comes near them.)

Demon: *A familiar!? Why are you there!?*

Angel: Familiar? Is it yours? Did it get caught up in the Mana waterfalls as well? Things won't get any better.

Demon: *That spirit is an idiot. That's why I didn't want you to follow me in the first place...... It's fine, just leave it alone for a while. It needs to be able to decide for itself......*

(The familiar is suddenly attacked by a large beast, kocking it down to the ground. The Demon switches place with the Angel.)

Angel: *What!*

(The Demon puts themselves in between the beast and the familiar.)

Demon: What is this beast doing? This familiar is no match for it!!

[CUTSCENE ENDS]

(The demon defeats the monster and runs toward the downed familiar.)

[CUTSCENE STARTS]

Demon: Hey, are you okay?

Familiar: ......Master!? I'm fine. That was a good fight out there......

Demon: Heh.

Angel: *What are we gonna do? Assimilate the familiar with us?*

Demon: We can't let it stay here like this...... It's a dangerous place after all.

(Li'l Cactus comes near the Demon and pats his arm, then points at a lone fluffly creature in a corner.)

Demon: What's that, a doll?

Angel: *A doll? Why is that here of all places?*

Demon: I see. That might be an option. Hey, familiar over there. I'm going to help you out. It might be painful, but bear with me.

Familiar: Don't get too rough with me, please......

Demon: Please, be patient.

(The demon merges the familiar with the plush doll.)

Angel: *It that!?*

Demon: I transferred the soul of the familiar into that doll. It's a demonic soul transfer skill. It wasn't guaranteed success, though...... thankfully it seems to have worked.

(Li'l Cactus comes near the plushie and pats its head. The creature wakes up, frightening the cactus who runs away.)

Familiar: ......Are you the one who help me?

Demon: Well, maybe.

(The demon slumps on the ground, looking weak.)

Demon: Damn...... Was the demonic soul transfer skill too much for my body to handle?

(The Demon falls unconscious. A small blond child notices them and comes to their rescue.)

[MISSION RESULTS]

[CUTSCENE STARTS]

(The Demon wakes up in a small house with Li'l Cactus at their side.)

Demon: Where am I?

(They get off the bed at the same time a thin, bespectacled man enters the house.)

????: Oh! You're finally awake, aren't you? ......I'm glad you're doing well.

(The small blond child and the familiar come into the house as well.)

Familiar: Master!! You're finally awake! I'm so glad!! I couldn't wake you up! I was wondering what to do!

Demon: Okay, okay.

Familiar: This girl here brought you all the way here!

Demon: You mean me?

(The little blond girl sings joyfully.)

Demon: I see. Well...... I'm sorry.

????: It's Cacao.

Demon: Uh?

????: That's this child's name.

Calcao: Mine's Calcao.

Demon: What?

Calcao: That's my name. I'm Cacao's father. Nice to meet you.

Demon: Oh, I see.

Calcao: I think you'll be okay, but you should rest a little longer. I'll hear your side of the story later.

(Calcao leaves the place.)

Calcao: Cacao, come now.

(Cacao waves at the Demon, then follows her dad outside.)

Demon: I don't really understand what happened......

Aria: *Does this mean we were saved by that parent and his child?*

Demon: Oh, so you're awake, too?

Aria: *Just a moment ago.*

Demon: Hey, familiar!

Familiar: Go ahead, ask me anything!

Demon: ......What is this place?

Familiar: This is Calcao's house in the town of Miste located near Mt. Manten!

Demon: Mt. Manten?

Angel: *Hey, that's the place we fell unconscious!*

Demon: So, where inside the town.

Angel: *That's right. We should gather information around town, then.*

Demon: Information, huh. I don't think people of the human world can get us back to the Celestial Land, you know.

Angel: *Well, it's better than doing nothing.*

Demon: *Sigh* So, that's all you've got......

[CUTSCENE ENDS]

[CUTSCENE STARTS]

(Once the protagonist crosses the bridge, the camera pans over the town's central plaza.)

Demon: This is a pretty small town. Will we be able to gather enough information here?

Angel: ......We have no other options, then. Let's leave this village and find other places.

Demon: Shouldn't we go back to Calcao, Cacao-whatever's place?

Angel: We are Celestial people. It would not be wise to meddle with human matters.

Demon: I just thought he might be a guy we'd want to hang out with.

Angel: Pipe down, will you... Hm?

(Cacao is seen being kidnapped by a bunch of Chobin Hoods.)

Demon: What was that just now?

Angel: ......It looks like Cacao has been kidnapped.

Demon: Kidnapped? By whom? Why?

Angel: We don't know yet, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough if we search!

Demon: Search? Didn't you just say it wasn't a good idea to put our noses into human lives?

Angel: Now's not the time to say things like that! We're indebted to Mr. Calcao and his daughter!

[CUTSCENE ENDS]
