Instruments

Instruments are items in Legend of Mana that allow spellcasting while equipped, and lure elemental spirits to gain coins.
You can buy instruments from towns, or craft them in your instrument workshop.
Crafting[edit]

In your instrument workshop, you can craft any primary material into any of four instrument types: harp, marimba, flute, or drum. The combination of primary material and instrument type determines the spell's power, and the starting coordinates of the instrument on the spell grid.
Elemental coin[edit]
The choice of elemental coin further affects the instrument's power and coordinates. Gold coins increase the instrument's power by 50% and move the coordinates two steps; silver coins move the coordinates one step.
- Wisp Gold: Wisp magic, +50% power, move two up (0, −2)
- Shade Gold: Shade magic, +50% power, move two down (0, +2)
- Dryad Gold: Dryad magic, +50% power, move two right and down (+2, +2)
- Aura Gold: Aura magic, +50% power, move two left and up (−2, −2)

Spell grid[edit]
The first coordinate is x, increasing from left to right. The second coordinate is y, increasing from top to bottom. The grid doesn't wrap around. If either coordinate would move off the grid, less than 0 or greater than 7, keep that coordinate at 0 or 7.
"L" is lock; enemies in the zone stop moving when you cast the spell. "A" spells (Balloon and Line) have a high damage multiplier. "B" spells (Control, Fan, and Random) may debuff stats, and have a medium damage multiplier. "C" spells (Circle and Donut) may inflict status ailments, and have a low damage multiplier. Balloon was called Sphere in the 2000 English version.
