Chapter 6 | In a Patchworked World is a story segment in Echoes of Mana.

Storyline[edit]

The protagonist is seen lying in an endless void just like the beginning of their adventure, with the Mana Goddess' voice claiming she's gonna bring the world and her sister back. Then, two young girls are heard playing with dolls. The main character is then transported inside a dollhouse, with the two twin children playing together. The twins cannot seem to agree on the story, on trying to make the male hero dumb and the other trying to stick with him being brave. Dema, the older sister, wants her younger sister Nona stick to the rules while the younger seems to be more liberal with her creativity. This makes Nona frustrated with her sibling, and leaves the premise. Dema then turns to the protagonist, claiming she can see them, asking them if they could look for her younger sister. Dema adds that she feels this isn't the first time she have asked for their help.

The harvester is then teleported to the Mekiv Caverns, where they meet with a lone warrior named Elazul, claiming he's looking for a friend. The Lapis Lazuli Jumi seems worried about Pearl, who once again wandered off without notice.

Elazul is surprised to cross path with the protagonist again, thinking he's being followed by them. The harvester reveals that they're also looking for a missing girl, but the Jumi Knight retorts that he only cares for Pearl. He storms off not before telling the protagonist to quit tailing him.

The harvester meets with Elazul yet again, who's getting increasingly frustrated at not finding his protégé. The Knight tells the protagonist to pick up the pace if they want to find their little girl, but the two adventurers are cut short by a giant mace-wielding ape that closes in on them.

After defeating Du'Inke, the two adventurers find Pearl hiding behind a giant stalagmite nearby. Elazul is relieved to find her unscathered along with her core still intact. The Jumi princess is intrigued by the harvester's presence, with Elazul telling her they've been looking for someone too, but that is none of their business. Pearl asks the protagonist if that person they're after is someone they cannot live without, but Elazul berates her for lagging behind. The harvester is then immediately warped to another dimension.

Finding themselves in a place called the Great Tree Caves, the protagonist hears an echoing voice saying that the worlds are woven together and they must seek the Mana Sword for that it their destiny. They then meet with Keldric, who mistook the voice he's heard from theirs. As the boy is about to introduce himself, he realizes that his childhood friend Ritzia is gone. The two of them team up in search of Keldric's lost friend. After wandering inside the labyrinth for a while, the duo hears the mystical voice again, asking them why did they leave them and demanding to give something back. Keldric comments on this place being strange, as this is supposed to be the sacred beast's resting place. He then shows a viny growth on his right arm to the harvester, claiming he's been picking up a big seed that sprouted all around his arm. The teenage boy seems to find the disembodied voices quite peculiar, but they keep show up again, now telling the duo that they need to put an end to this to redeem their pain and sins, as surely that is the sword was meant for.

Keldric finally reunites with Ritzia, but she seems transfixed on a voice that says they're be waiting for her. The maiden then touches the root of the Great Tree, causing both Ritzia and Keldric to disappear. The harvester is yet again teleported into anotother strange place.

The environment the main character is in seems completely jumbled up. A girl's cry is then heard from a distance.

The main character wanders deeper into the echo, wondering where Keldric, Ritzia, Elazul, and Pearl have gone to, with not even having Baashear to keep him company. The young girl's voice definitely seems closer now.

A Gorgon Eye makes creeps near the protagonist, engaging them into a fight. After the brawl, the harvester locates the younge girl's voice near what seems to be a dead end. A light shines onto them, sending them yet again to another world.

The harvest finally meets with Nona, saying she comes here whenever she wants to be alone and think. She tells the story of the Mana clan: whenever the Mana Tree dies, and the world falls into peril, a girl from their clan must become the next Mana Tree. Dema was chosen to be the next Mana Goddess, but they don't know when that day would come. She wanted to stand up to her back when they were arguing in the dollhouse. Dema always tells Nona that she won't be lonely whe she becomes that goddess, as her twin will still be alive. Nona is somehow doubtful of that since the other half will always be at her side. The older sister seems to carry all that responsibility by herself to protect her younger sister, making her younger sibling feeling lonely. Nona feels glad to be able to open up to a stranger so quickly. A young boy of the Mana clan called Diospyros reaches them, claiming he's been searching for them ever since he heard she ran away. The boy says that her older sister is worried about her, to which Nona feels sorry about that. She tells Diospyros that he's like the hero Dema and Nona created in their story. The two Mana clan members head back to the village, with Nona thanking the harvester for listening to her story. She then adds that she can only be her, just like the protagonist. She vanishes along with the main character, with the latter being sent back in front of the Mana Sanctuary with their twin to their side. The harvester asks them who they are, leaving the doppelganger perplex, saying they are acting weird today. The twin then direct their attention to a new fruit attached to the sacred tree's branch.

Trivia[edit]

  • This chapter is one of only three in the main story to not have an Echo fruit in its name.
  • Segment 6-5 The Lost Princess shares its name with a Legend of Mana quest. Both take place in the Mekiv Caverns and share similar story elements.
