Nona is a non-player character in Echoes of Mana and a major player in Season 2. She is the ascendant Mana Goddess of a new, unnamed world as introduced in this era. Alongside her twin sister Dema, Nona was one of two candidates for the post when first encountered in Season 1, Chapter 6.

Background[edit]

Dema was born with her twin sister as part of the Mana clan in a small unnamed village. There she befriended Diospyros was taugh the ways and customs of being a Mana maiden to prepare for her upcoming duties once the current Mana Tree would wither. On that fateful day, the consulted with the village elder who declared the holy tree to be dying. She announced the grave news to her sister and Diospyros and told them she would fulfill her duties as instructed to become the next Goddess. Nona objected to that decision and pressed Dema to reconsider, but the older sister reassured her sibling, telling her she had been prepared for that moment since she was little. Dema then asked Diospyros to be her knight for the ceremony and bring her to the Sanctuary. Nona scolded her friend for keeping his mouth shut, but decided to rush to the temple to see her twin sister for the last time. Unbeknownst to Dema, Nona took her role as the ascending Goddess by pleading the current Mana Goddess to become the next one in her sister's place. As the younger sister was about to transform, Dema & Diospyros watched helplessly as she succesfully ascended. This action led Dema into despair as she would be the one who would lose an important piece of her life.

History[edit]

Echoes of Mana[edit]

The Harvester and Nona first met during a flashback dream sequence during the sixth chapter of the first season, during which her and her twin sister Dema were playing with dolls. Dema kept insisting on keeping the story on tract which greatly annoyed her twin sister who wanted to experiment. This escalated to Nona storming off of the dollhouse, wiping away her tears as she wept in silence. She was eventually found by the protagonist alone in an open field and shared the rituals of the Mana clan, specifically the one involving a chosen Mana maiden destined to transform into the next Mana Goddess once the old Tree withers. Her sister Dema was chosen and they don't know when this event should occur. She added Dema told her she would not be lonely being a goddess, but Nona has trouble believing that fact. Her sister always wanted to take on the responsibilities on her own and Nona wanted to give her fair share sometimes. She is found by Diospyros who was sent to bring her back, and tells the protagonist they can only be them and no one else.

They meet again at the beginning of the second season, moments after Dema succesfully became a goddess and created the False Tree. She tells the protagonist that his journey has but started and they need to venture into the echoes once again to find their lost friends and slay the gold roots sapping the memories of the echoes. She tries to threat all the remaining memories, but her powers can only go so far. The now grown up Diospyros heads to the echoes most affected by the False Tree while the protagonist and Mousseline carry on their quest for finding missing allies.

After gathering all their friends, the hero heads back to the Sanctuary where Nona gives them a special echo fruit containing the memories of her and her sister. There, the party watches as the events leading to Nona ascending to goddesshood unfold before their very eyes. They later are forced to defeat Gossamare and slay another gold root. In the end, the Harvester collected all the eight elemental spirits to power up their Mana Sword and defeat Dema.

As the echoes from the Hollow Tree escape following her defeat, the Great Sanctuary changes back to an empty world devoid of life. An unconscious Dema wakes up aside Diospyros, realizing she's failed to fulfill her plans. She tells her knight she feels immense guilt over what happened for she could see and hear every actions she did to all echoes she corrupted. She dreads coming back to her sister after all she's done, but Diospyros reassures her, and the two of them head back to Nona's sanctuary, who welcomes them with a big smile.

General information[edit]

Physical appearance[edit]

As a child, she has teal-colored eyes & hair which he wears as a small bun and poneytail on the side. Her head is decorated with a white flower on the other side. Her white dress has a wide petal pattern on her chest with short puffy sleeves. A large diamond-shaped embroidery trim is decorating the lower side of these sleeves, with tulip-shaped bangles at her wrist.

In her maiden uniform, her hair has grown below her buttocks and are decorated with two white flowers attached to looping strands of hair. Some of her hair next to her face has been braided. She wears a white sleeveless gown with mulitple flounces akin to an ancient greek Chiton. Finally, she sports white fingerless gloves on both sides.

When she becomes the Mana Goddess, her hairdo is entwined with ivy and white and orange flowers. He braids and hair hoops have become larger and longer, too. She dawns a hairstring with a red tear-shaped gemstone. Part of her neck is hidden by a detached white flower-like collar while her arms are covered by long white billowing multi-tiered sleeves. Her dress neckline goes all the way to her middrift and is decorated by foliage.

Personality[edit]

Nona's temperament contrasts her older sister by being much more flexible with rules and liking experimentation, as seen when the two are seen playing in the dollhouse. She also greatly enjoy meeting new people and loves when everyone is working together to make things better. She adores her sister dearly and holds no remorse in her actions in the end.
