The Trials of Mana Demo is a playable demo of the remake version of Trials of Mana. It was published to PlayStation Network, the Nintendo Switch eShop, and Steam on March 18, 2020.

Scenario[edit]

Long ago, a great battle was waged between the Mana Goddess and the powers of darkness led by the eight Benevodons. Though the toll of the battle was massive, the Goddess smote the Benevodons and sealed them away. Weary from rebuilding the world, the Goddess transformed into a tree and set her weapon at her feet.

With the Mana Tree weakening countless years later, the world finds itself under threat from evil once more. Six heroes with different origins and different objectives will band together to locate the eight Mana Stones and retrieve the Mana Sword to protect the tree and confront the source of this malice.

The player will follow one of the six heroes and up to two chosen companions on their journey to the Holy City of Wendel as each receives a vision of their destiny to wield the Sword.

Scope[edit]

The demo encompasses the prologue and half of the first chapter of the original game's main scenario. The player may select a leader character and two others to join him/her for the duration of the quest.

Full game functionality is present, but the player can only advance party members through experience level 7 and cannot advance the plot beyond the second visit to Cascade Cavern. The player may, however, save their progress at Mana Goddess statues and transfer all progress from the completed demo to the full game when purchased, in effect allowing continuance of the story.

Transferring existing saves[edit]

Upon starting the complete version of the game, it will scan the platform's file system for active save files from the demo. This data will be copied and converted automatically, at which point the game can be resumed from whence the demo ended. Units will have all items, lucre, experience and learned skills intact. However, this process does not remove the demo nor the save data prior to conversion; thus, the player must manually purge the data should they have need of storage space.
