Kett Manor, originally Kett, is a dungeon in Final Fantasy Adventure and its direct remake, Adventures of Mana.

Location[edit]

From the Eastern Cave, Sumo will travel through marshlands to arrive at a castle, three grid squares south and one grid square east.

Story[edit]

Sumo and Fuji receive a gracious welcome and an offer of rest from the butler, only to oblige. Fuji then offers the Book of Curing so that he may tend to his wounds when necessary. But not all is as it seems; as the pair turns in for the evening, Fuji suddenly disappears and an ominous voice is heard claiming a kind of victory and satisfaction at procuring a new victim. Sumo is startled awake. He must find a way to get past the butler and rescue the girl.

Another guest claims to have seen a mirror said to reveal the truth, and that the master of the Manor keeps it sealed in his remote peat cellar. He also despises the lizardmen in the marshes, but has them guard the Silver Key needed to open the cellar door. Sumo heads into the marshlands and takes the key.

As he descends into the Marsh Cellar, Sumo meets a mysterious traveler who is keenly aware of his predicament, and offers to go with him to retrieve the mirror. They find a sickle to cut through heavy weeds as they venture further down the cellar. At the bottom is a bog, where a vicious Hydra guards the precious mirror. Sumo and the traveler handily defeat the beast. The traveler, having completed his task, abruptly departs.

Back at Kett Manor, Sumo presents the Moon Mirror to the butler, unmasking a werewolf that he quickly dispatches. As he makes his way through the maze of hidden rooms and into the basement, Sumo finds a chain flail, then heads upstairs to the roof and vaults across a gap in the battlements. He enters a room full of strange coffins. One such coffin is still loose; Fuji is found inside, scared but unharmed, and rejoins Sumo.

As the pair prepares to leave the Manor, the master reveals himself to be a Vampire who lashes out and attacks them.

Echoes of Mana[edit]

Kett Manor was the focal point of the Halloween 2022 event "Secrets of Kett Manor".

Behind the scenes[edit]

The original name of this dungeon was Vinquette Hall, but it was truncated due to the Game Boy's text space limitations. This would be restored in Sword of Mana, but at the same time, the storyline was heavily edited and expanded for the remake. Adventures of Mana compromised by using Kett Manor despite having no perceptible limit on text space.

Nintendo of America's notoriously strict content guidelines of the 1980s and early 1990s forbade overt references to blood and gore, sex, and religion; Mr. Lee was therefore heavily censored; in Seiken Densetsu, Lee pursues the blood of a virgin, while Global settled for simply wanting a victim. These same guidelines are also why most crosses in Final Fantasy Adventure were switched with V shapes. Here also Adventures of Mana compromised by replacing the crosses with white shapes resembling engraved placards.
