Chapter 8 | Voidfig: Torment's Terminus is a story segment in Echoes of Mana.

Storyline

8-1 Story | ???

The protagonist finds themselves in a twisted version of the Sanctuary of Mana called the Dark Echo where the Ebon Knight greets them with his blade. The dark opponent tells them it's time to put an end to you and their false mission, and proceeds to summon four nighty knitwits before flying away. Fortunately for the hero, Mousseline appears out of thin air, claiming she's gonna help him defeat the threat if the harvester stop their search for the Mana Sword. The protagonist refuses, with the faerie warning him not come crying to her when everything will turn sour. She then diseappear while leaving the main character fighting alone.

Knitwits keep popping incessantly despite all the harvester's attempt to get rid of them. Turns out a familiar voice is ringing inside their ears while they are fighting. Duffle, Honeycomb, Raxa, and Blainchet are heard encouraging the hero and asking them to summon them for help. While searching for a way out, the protagonist is face with many familial foes they've felled in previous echoes, such as Armored Inferno.

After defeating the first boss, the harvester gets another vision of people they've met from different worlds, like Popoi and Primm from Verdigourd. They face off againt the Mantis Ant moments after.

Visions of Elazul and Pearl then start to bolster the young chosen to victory. A couple of steps later, the harvester now has to face off against Du'Inke once again.

The next voices heard are from Keldric and Ritzia while the next foe the main character must defeat is the Gorgon Eye.

8-6 Boss Battle | Facing the Nightmare

Keldric, Riesz, Hawkeye, Randi, Sumo, all warn the chosen at what lies ahead, telling them they believe in them. The final opponent is none other than the Ebon Knight, hoping to quickly crush the lone harvester. The dark knight doesn't understand his opponent's resolve not to give up, as they don't have any memory nor a real reason to seek the Mana Sword. The Ebon Knight reveals to be the one chosen by the sword, that's why he cannot ever be defeated by them. He then transforms into a gruesome centaur and attacks the protagonist.

8-9 Story | Arrival

Ultimately bested by the harvester, the Ebon Knight calls out Dema's name in vain as he vaporizes in front of his opponent, leaving only his dark sword behind. The protagonist's staff then glows to change into the true Mana Sword, immediately making a familial voice echoing inside their head. The voice entrusts them to return the sacred blade to the Mana Tree. The main character reunites with Baashear and their twin in the Sanctuary of Mana, with the fluffball sobbing loudly about them disappearing and hearing their allies' voices. The Mana Goddess appears before them, thanking the harvester for retrieving this world's Mana Sword, adding that the Mana Tree shall be revived, saving the world along with it. She then commands them to go forth with the blade and pierce her flesh, as this is a necessary step to revive the holy tree. The young hero reluctantly execute themselves, planting the holy blade through the goddess' body. The deity reveals herself as allmighty, being both the Mana Goddess and the Mana Tree at the same time. She then casts a powerful spell that sends both the harvester and Baashear flying off, and transforms the holy tree into an evil form of itself.
