Fury is an important game mechanic in Children of Mana.
Overview[edit]
For every blow the main character takes or gives, the Fury gauge represented by crystals at the bottom left of the upper screen fills up by one. Once the gauge is filled all the way with ten glowing crystals, the player can press SELECT to temporarily switch to fury mode. During this state, players can use A and X Buttons to unleash a variety of special attacks, making it easier to defeat enemies and obstacles.
Several changes can be noticed during fury:
- The attack rate is faster
- Focused attacks are modified to deal more damage and have different effects.
- Equipped purple gems will be activated.
Weapons[edit]
In addition to the aforementioned bonuses, each weapon has a particular animation during fury.
- Swords will make the character dash forward with the blade glowing in front of them, causing great damage. Enemies that are stationary (like vortexes) will receive up to three hits. Certain gems can increase the distance the charge lasts and the damage caused.
- Flails will behave the same way as a normal focused attack, but with greater range and dealing more damage. Certain gems can increase the number of times the flail can rotate around the player character.
- Bows will shoot multiple arrows in different direction, increasing normal range. Certain gems can raise the amount of arrows shot.
- Hammers will make the player character gyrate with their hammer pointing outward while moving, allowing them to inflict damage on a very large area without knocking enemies backward. Certain gems will raise the duration of this state.
Fury Reel[edit]
Once the player equips the eponymous purple gem on their Gem Frame, it will transform the normal filled fury gauge into a slot machine called Fury Reel. Once the player unleashes the reel, its stops and the three displayed icons are put into effect depending on their configuration.
- Lining up 3 Gumdrops will fully replenish the player character's HP.
- Lining up 3 Swords will make the protagonist go berserk, making every blow a critical hit during fury.
- Lining up 3 pieces of Armor will shield the hero with Aegis, making them invincible during fury.
- Lining up 3 lucre makes enemies drop large sums of money during fury.
- Lining up 2 of the same icons will restore 50% of the main character's HP.
- Lining up 3 skulls will make the crystal gauge empty completely, breaking fury.
- Lining up no matches will make nothing happen.
