Candies, named Gumdrops in some games, are basic recovery items in the Mana series. They make their first appearance in Final Fantasy Adventure. They restore a bit of HP to a character. Throughout their appearances, Candies are consistently depicted as round-shaped and covered in wrapping, the color of which differs between appearances but generally has a shade of pink. However, their Final Fantasy Adventure artwork depicts them as transparent and without wrapping.

History[edit]

Final Fantasy Adventure/Adventures of Mana[edit]

In Final Fantasy Adventure, the Candy restores about 10 HP to Sumo with each use. It is a common drop from various low-level monsters, and cannot be bought in shops. The player can activate only one at a time. In the Adventures of Mana remake, Candy has the same role as in the original version. However, the revised Ring Menu mechanics automatically equip any Candy remaining in the player's Item Ring.

Secret of Mana[edit]

In Secret of Mana, candies restores 100 HP to a party member. The small treat remains a common drop from low-level monsters such as Rabites, and is now purchasable in many item shops for 10 GP.

Trials of Mana[edit]

Candy is once again purchasable in the majority of item shops in addition to being a common drop from weaker enemies. In the original 2D version, it restores 100 HP and is bought for 10 lucre; but in the remake, it restores 200 HP and can be bought for 20 lucre. It sells for 5 lucre in both versions.

In the 2D version, the sweet treat can be grown from the Magic Pot by planting an Item Seed. In the 3D version, candies can also sprout from the magic pot should the player use either an item seed, a silver, gold or rainbow item seed. They can also frequently be found by collecting sparkles, opening chests, or by breaking red urns, especially in early game.

Legend of Mana[edit]

Candies are now only item drops from monsters and restore a small amount of HP to the protagonist on contact.

Sword of Mana[edit]

Candies in Sword of Mana restore 30 HP once consumed. They can be bought in every item shops for the small price of 10 Lucre. It is also a common drop from enemies.

Children of Mana[edit]

In Children of Mana, they are named Gumdrops, and using one on the hero restores 30 of their HP. Candy is often found by destroying pots and plants, and they can be bought for at Golden Goods for 100 Lucre apiece. Gumdrops are most often used during earlier parts of the hero's journey, but become somewhat obsolete later on as the hero's level increases and the Chocochomp, which restores 100 HP, becomes a lot more common. The Wisp spirit can also heal 30 HP by using Healing Light, although at the cost of MP.
