Legend of Mana artwork

Undine is one of the eight Mana Spirits of the Mana series, first appearing in Secret of Mana. Taking her name from water-nymphs of Renaissance legend, the mermaid spirit represents the joint elements of water and ice. Undine is most often seen as a blue-skinned, fish-tailed being wearing a heart-shaped bodice and carrying a trident. Her powers include the ability to summon floods, rain showers, snowstorms, waterspouts, and ice crags; and in Secret of Mana, she can summon water to heal wounds as well as to purify party members who have been struck with status ailments. Though often timid and at times over-emotional, she is quick to make friends as she meets the party.

History

Secret of Mana

Undine is the first Mana Spirit to meet the heroes, secreted away in her cave near the Water Palace. Acting on a premonition from Sage Luka, Randi's party heeds Undine's distress call and wipes out schools of Iffish and a Biting Lizard to rescue her.

When liberated, Undine offers herself to the party and grants Primm Ice Saber, Remedy and Cure Water. She also gives Popoi Freeze, Acid Storm, and Energy Absorb.

Trials of Mana

Undine is one of only two quasi-optional spirits acquired in Trials of Mana; she can be fifth or sixth in order with Salamander as the other. The heroes must ride Vuscav to the Altena continent and trek west across the Frostbite Fields from Alrant and then south from Altena itself to find the Labyrinth of Ice. The Darkshine Knight meets the party with a trio of advanced mechs in front of the entrance. Once they are downed, the party will only need to approach the Waterstone (and bring out Faerie in the 2D version) just inside the cavern. Undine joins in a cutscene.

Moves learned or enhanced include Ice Saber, Mental Boost, Weaken, Ice Smash, Spike Freeze, Cold Blaze, and Water Diversion.
