Tagline[1]

Careena is a playable character in Visions of Mana. Hailing from the dragonfolk village of Longren, she lost one of her wings due to an accident. She has a strong interest in the world outside her village, and she has been dreaming of traveling around the world since she was a child. She is also close friends with Ramcoh, the child of a holy beast who rescued her from the accident, whom she considers as her own sibling.

Background[edit]

“Careena hails from Longren, the Vale of Wind. An unfortunate accident took one of her precious wings, but even that couldn’t dampen her wish to be appointed the alm and see the world outside of Longren.”

“Careena hails from Longren, the Vale of Wind. An unfortunate accident took one of her precious wings. She is rarely seen without her best friend, Ramcoh, a sacred beast cub.”
X Mana Series

Careena is one from a long line of dragonfolk appointed as the Oracle of Wind. As is her sacred duty, she is to perform a ritual to summon the Faerie, who will select the Alm of Wind to be sacrificed to the Mana Tree and thereby to protect the vale from harm. When she was younger, a mishap near the Sanctum of Wind resulted in the amputation of one of her wings. Ramcoh, a young dragoness, saved Careena; and since that day, the two have shared a sisterly bond. As the Oracle of Wind, Careena cannot leave the Vale, but a crisis during the pilgrimage of the alms may yet grant her foremost wish: to see the world beyond as it truly is.

History[edit]

Visions of Mana[edit]

The time has come to summon Faerie and select the alm who will journey to the Mana Tree on a pilgrimage. However, the village chief and the people are finding that Careena refuses to perform the ritual at all. When Val and Hinna arrive to escort the alm, the chief informs them of Longren's plight and asks the pair to fetch Careena, who they find visibly upset at being pressured into her duties, for the Faerie has not yet come for the alm. As expected, she refuses Val's pleas for her help, instead demanding that he retrieve her longtime friend Shiriu to help her. Val and Hinna do so, yet Careena is found in an argument with her parents over her duties and becoming the Alm. Val then offers to perform the wind-dyeing ceremony in Careena's place, with Hinna offering likewise. The two fail, prompting Careena to give in and conduct the ceremony herself.

When Faerie arrives, however, she cannot bless an alm as Longren's patron elemental Sylphid has not been heard from in some time, and so suggests climbing Mt. Gala to check on him. The convoy, now three strong, reaches the snow-capped summit and finds the wind spirit in the grip of a Mantis Ant, and slays the giant bug to release him. Sylphid and Faerie then confer, resulting in Careena's blessing as Alm of Wind.
