The Faerie is a supporting character in Visions of Mana. She is an emissary of the Mana Goddess, tasked with the appointment and the anointment of the alms who will offer their souls to the Mana Tree.
Biography[edit]
Faerie is assumed to have existed since before recorded history. When the world of Fa'Diel collapsed into Qi'Diel, at some point she would be charged with selecting eight souls every four years to replenish mana that would be depleted in ongoing efforts to hold the curse of Daelophos at bay. She would confer with each of the eight Mana Spirits to select an alm that best embodied each elemental's foremost traits. This process continued without incident over hundreds of years.
Four years prior to the start of the story, however, Faerie is sent to the desert village of Gudju to bless the Alm of Earth, Lyza; but the former instead observes her charge refusing her duties just as Gnome's mana has been spent and the then-current soul guard is due to escort Lyza at any moment. A ceramicist named Eoren has fallen in love with Lyza and wishes to halt the cycle of sacrifice so that the pair may live in peace.
As our story begins four years later, Faerie is seen conferring with Salamando in Tianeea. She has come to anoint the passionate village girl Hinna as the Alm of Fire. The latter accepts without hesitation.
From this time forth, Faerie anoints five more alms to join the present soul guard, Val, in this year's convoy. She assists the convoy in their pilgrimage, but only when necessary, preferring to leave them to their business unless they stray too far from their assignment.
