Vuscav is a supporting character in Trials of Mana and a recurring character in the Mana series.

As the party awakens on Beuca Island, they observe the strange creature swimming close to the coast, and are in wonderment as to what it might be. However, their larger priority is getting off the island before the active volcano blows. In Tomato Town, the villagers mention the "ruler of the seas" that may help them.

Heading for the Seaside Cavern at the opposite end of the island, Gnome clears a landslide blocking the heroes' path. But, as they rush to meet the supposed deity, Malocchio corners the party in the depths of the cavern. He decides to leave them stranded just as the volcano erupts. In an instant, Vuscav beckons them to board and make their escape. He then swims mightily toward the Golden Road to drop them off, for which the Chosen thanks him.

Upon their return to Valsena, the Hero King is in shock that the party has befriended the normally reclusive creature. Before sending them to meet the remaining elemental spirits, he gives them the Ferry Flute to summon Vuscav at will.

The party automatically obtains the HP Boost II Chain Ability upon being saved by the creature. The player can also earn the achievement "Ruler of the Seas" upon calling Vuscav for the first time.

Heroes of Mana

During chapter 21, Vuscavs in the Trap, Elena turned two of Vuscav's species into Zombie Vuscav and had them attack her enemies. It is not known whether this act contributed to Vuscav's distaste of humans.

Visions of Mana

In the ancient history of Qi'Diel, Vuscav once fell in love with a princess and was eventually petrified in Tatoh Temple. Eons later, he still weeps for his lost love. When the convoy of alms visits the temple in search of a means to cross the ocean, they must tell his story to revive him. Unfortunately, Vuscav wakes angrily, mutating into the monstrous Vuscavalanche out of revenge against the humanoids that sealed him and his lover. A few solid knocks to the head, however, brought him back to sanity. In thanks, he once again gives up the Ferry Flute for the convoy to summon him. As before, he can make landfall at marked shores and piers.

Calling and riding Vuscav for the first time earns the "Prince of the Ocean" achievement.

Circle of Mana

Vuscav makes a cameo appearance in the online game, along with several other characters from the Mana series. He appears in 1 set of cards.

General information

Physical appearance

Based on the Japanese myth of the kappa, Vuscav is more fish-like than the sea turtle he outwardly resembles, having webbing on his head and arms. A turtle shell with a red pennant flag is strapped to his back as if carrying a knapsack. Otherwise, Vuscav is a bulky green creature with the bill of a duck and the feet of a seabird. He wears a set of dive goggles.
