Ifrit, also known as Efflite or Iflyte, is a recurring boss in the Mana series. As it only appears in Final Fantasy Adventure and its subsequent remakes, tt is portrayed as a fiery humanoid creature guarding the legendary sword Excalibur at the bottom of the Subsea Volcano.
In the Game Boy installment and its direct remake, it can turn into a giant boulder to crush Sumo or summon a wall of fire at him. Defeating the ablazed monster rewards the player with the Ifrit Extinguisher achievement. In the Sword of Mana remake, the Efflite can attack by punching its opponents. It can also turn into a fireball and quickly bounce up and down to harm party members. Despite its looks, the Efflite is not weak to water spells.
Appearances[edit]
Final Fantasy Adventure/Adventures of Mana[edit]
- Main article: Ifrit (Adventures of Mana)
Following Sage Cibba's advice, Sumo ventures into the cave on the Ammonite Coast to retrieve the holy sword of legend. The Ifrit is found at the bottom floor of the Undersea Volcano, guarding the Rusty Sword. The hero defeats the monster and brings the weapon back to Cibba.
In the original Game Boy installment, the Ifrit moves left and right in the upper part of the platform, then transforms into a boulder to crush Sumo in its path, making a flattened 8 figure in doing so.
In Adventures of Mana, the Ifrit still follows the same movement pattern than the previous installment. It can summon a wall of fire before him and turn into a boulder. Defeating it will reward the player with the Ifrit Extinguisher achievement.
Sword of Mana[edit]
- Main article: Efflite (Sword of Mana)
Now renamed Efflite, the fiery monster has the same role in Sword of Mana it had in the original installment, the difference being that the hero or the heroine gets a glimpse of the rusty sword before the fight even begins.

Etymology[edit]
The Ifrit is a powerful type of demon in Islamic culture. It is often associated with the underworld and identified with the spirits of the dead. It is said to be inhabiting the layers of the seven earths, and formed out of smoke and fire. The monster is widely known in the Final Fantasy franchise as a fire-elemental summon.
Efflite is a mistranslation of Ifrit. Other mistranslations for Ifrit include Ifflyte and Efreet.
