Elemental Plots are an important part of the character development system in Visions of Mana. This system is unlocked when the player acquires an elemental vessel for the first time.

Overview[edit]

Upon receiving the Sylphid Boomerang, the convoy will gain access to their first classes, each of which has 11 skills available to learn. Each member will acquire the first skill in a new class when a new vessel is equipped, with all ten future skills in the equipped class requiring EP to obtain. EP are gained via leveling up, drawing from elementite stones, or after specific battles. Spending Gold Clovers will also give a convoy member 1 EP for each item used, if that member does not have sufficient EP to learn the desired skill.

However, each elemental plot is gated so as to limit the acquisition of skills that may be overpowered for specific points in the story. To pass through each gate, a Tonic item specific to each of the five party members is needed, and is obtained by clearing specific boss battles. The gates are divided as follows:

  • Skills 1-4 are unlocked automatically as the vessel is equipped.
  • Skills 5-7 become available after the first plot expansion.
  • Skills 8 and 9 become available after the second plot expansion.
  • Skills 10 and 11 become available after a third and final expansion.

With regards to the story:

  • The first plot expansion occurs during the core story (Chapters 1-6).
  • The second plot expansion occurs during the Benevodon hunt (Chapter 7).
  • The final plot expansion occurs in post-game content.

Any moves acquired through the elemental plots may be used by any other class, but any class-specific passives are only applied while the character is in the class linked to said passives. Thus, since EP are scarce, the player should invest in the abilities they will use most often. Ability Seeds allow the player to equip skills that the party's equipped classes would not otherwise allow. Should the player wish to re-allocate EP, they can use a set of Goddess Scales to reset the plot and return all EP to a single character.
