Hazards are a recurring feature in the Mana titles. They usually appear in dungeons as obstacles players should avoid since they deal damage on collision or by being stepped on, reducing the player character's HP. Harzards come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, including spikes, lava, poison clouds, etc. Some instances allow for a alternate path for the player to take instead while other areas are littered with hazards, rendering the dungeon hard to traverse. Some hazards may cause status ailments, the most common being poison.

Appearances[edit]

Final Fantasy Adventure/Adventures of Mana[edit]

The player will find the first damage floor in Kett, Glaive's Airship, Glaive Castle, Davias' Mansion, Cave of Ruins, Dime Tower, and Temple of Mana. These spikes will be sticking out of the floor. Stepping on them deals a good portion of damage to Sumo. There is also lava found within the Undersea Volcano. A third one, an energy field deals the most damage out of all damage floors. This one appears within Glaive's Airship, Glaive Castle, Cave of Ruins, and Dime Tower.

Icy floors that cause Sumo to slip and slide out of the player's control are also scattered throughout the world, with the first of these in the Shifting Sands,

Secret of Mana[edit]

Although the game doesn't have traps or damage floor, the spikes at the back of the Wall Face boss arena could be considered as hazard since they inflict instant death should the party fails to defeat the boss in time after slaying the two eyes and leaving the middle one alive.

Trials of Mana HD[edit]

While the 2D installment doesn't have any hazards, the 3D one does feature a number of traps capable of hurting the party.

  • Lava is found inside the Fiery Gorge and will deplete the party member's HP in addition to inflicting the Burn status.
  • Fire geysers functions the same as lava and will also add burn to an ally.
  • Poison clouds found in Daria will poison the party member and will also make them lose HP on contact.
  • Poison pools lurking in the Woods of Wandara will also poison an ally and hurt them.
  • With the Labyrinth of Ice made of literal ice, many surfaces are slippery and thereby difficult to get and maintain a foothold on.

  • The player can fall from an edge, ledge, or bridge in any area. However, there is no penalty for doing so, as the character will be reset on the last stable point they reached. When falling off a temporary platform (e.g. Mt. Gala) or from a grapple (e.g. Passagean Tomespire), the player will return to the beginning of the path facing in the direction they were going.
  • The frozen waters of Rime Falls will immediately cause significant damage to any party members caught in the current.
  • Poison pools dot the backwoods areas of Mylos Woods. Falling in will cause a character to be poisoned for a time.
  • In the Temple of Wendel, several areas have ice on the floor that can induce skidding. If whacked with strong attacks, the ice shatters.
  • Dorpher Volcano has many lava pools in its eastern reach. Touching any active red lava will burn the victim for a time. Blue lava will instantly cause major damage. Sinking stones allow the party to cross in some areas, but will drop quickly as the player stands on them.
