“My master went to the sea and tried sinking a ship by singing. The ship didn't sink, but if they really believed that the ship would sink that way, I'd need to make them see a doctor.”

Gilbert: Love is Blind is a quest in Legend of Mana.

Premise[edit]

Inside her birdage overlooking the ocean in Madora Beach, Elle is thinking about venturing outside. She joins the protagonist passing by and both of them decide to go to Polpota Harbor. There they meet Gilbert at the Seaside Hotel's retaurant, who mistake the siren for Monique. The poet of love then automatically starts serenading his next love interest, but the Siren is not impressed, and returns to her home in Madora Beach. Back in her birdcage, she is joined by her friend Flameshe, who is surprised to learn that Elle has decided to stop signing out side of her house. Elle explains that she doesn't want to sink anymore ships, to which Flameshe quips by saying that humans do whatever they want on land, and act as they own the sea, even though they were here first. The two suddenly start hearing a melodious voice coming from outside the birdcage. Elle recognizes it as Gilbert's and is surprised to see him going out of his way to meet her. The siren accompanies the main character to go outside, but the infatuated centaur interprets her move as if she wanted to see him. He proceeds to shower her with love as usual, but Flameshe interrupts him, saying that Elle should just tell him that she hates him. The mermaid swears to Elle that if she go out with him, she can't be her friend anymore. As the vanishes, the siren is shocked to hear such cruel words, reminding the mermaid that Monique went out with him. Gilbert thanks her by running towards her, which frightens Elle. The dashing centaur momentarily gaze into the horizon, spotting a ship, and tells the siren that they should be on this vessel. On that note, Gilbert grabs Elle and runs off. The love doves are seen again aboard the SS Buccaneer, Gilbert encouraging Elle to sing their newfound love. The winged maiden denies she can sing, but the clever centaur reminds her that the wings of a siren who cannot sing will wither. As surprised Elle is for him to know that fact, she still adamantly refuses to sing, as this ship would start to sink. Meanwhile in the captain's quarters, a Pirate Penguin inquires Cap'n Tusk about the reason he let Gilbert come aboard the ship. The chief walrus answers back by telling the crewmate that if they capture him, they could sell him to a millionaire. As the protagonist returns to the main deck, the Pirate Penguins have tied Gilbert up while an helpless siren is watching in horror. She has no other choice but to sing in front of the crew, making the whole ship on the brink of collapsing. This attract a giant sea creature who attacks the protagonist. After slaying the beast, Elle and Gilbert are seen ambushed by Pirate Penguins accusing her of trying to sink the ship. The weakened centaur implores her love interest to fly away, but the siren refuses as her would meet a dire end should he be left alone. Cap'n Tusk tells his men to cease any rudeness. He tries to reason his crew to let the lady live as she is not the cause of their impending doom, but it is because of their combined spirit that they are alive. He dares the siren to sing again so he can prove to his underlings that their spirit can prevent any sea disaster. As Elle starts to voice her melodious air, the ship is once again violently shaken from left and right. Despite all the breaches and tremors, the vessel is able to stay afloat during Elle's song, proving that the Pirate Penguins can team up efficiently.
