The following is a list of allusions and references in Visions of Mana.
Mana series
Final Fantasy Adventure & Adventures of Mana
- Val can dress as Sumo with an alternate costume.
- In the Free City of Tsaata, the convoy meets with a dragonfolk woman named "Footloose Fu Ji", referencing Fuji.
- Hinna's role in the early story is roughly identical to Fuji's in that the former serves as a de facto healer.
- Illusia Isle is located beyond a large cliff from whence flows a waterfall.
Sword of Mana
Secret of Mana
- The party battles the Mantis Ant first chronologically should the prologue be omitted.
- Julei has an alternate outfit with Popoi's headgear, robes, and war paint.
- The Luka Ruins act as the shrine of the Water Elemental Undine, and are named for Luka, the 200-year-old sage and priestess of the Water Palace.
- The convoy boards a ship known as the Primm from Rhata Harbor to Ledgas Bay.
- The party battles the Benevodon Garethe aboard a derelict ship dubbed the Dyluck, named for Primm's crush.
Trials of Mana
- Riesz's Amazon garb is available for Careena, though with a bow in place of Riesz's coronet.
- Val inherits several classes from Duran.
- Careena can take up classes previously held by both Riesz and Kevin, being part-dragon.
- Morley shares many traits with Hawkeye, including some of his classes and skills.
- Palamena draws aspects of her character from Riesz and Angela.
- Fullmetal Hugger has again consumed a Mana Spirit, this time being Undine.
- Dryad is encountered after defeating Grapplavine in a lush forest.
- Jewel Eater returns to consume Gnome; and again, the latter was abducted by the creature while napping.
- Zable Fahr is the only original benevodon to reprise its role.
- The Black Rabite reappears as a superboss.
Dawn of Mana
- The first Nemesis (hunt target) encountered is the Tricky Buju, a reference to Ritzia's treasured pet rabite.
- Another Nemesis called Deft Chitto shares resident Wonderwood Chobee's Japanese name.
- A distorted version of Trent is fought.
Legend of Mana
- Morley has a costume to appear as Elazul, complete with a crystal arm.
- Palamena can dress up as Lady Blackpearl.
- The Nemesis Brutal Guri shares its name with the recruitable pet goblin.
Children of Mana
- Players receive the Dudbear Dictionary early during the game. A similar item can be obtained in Children of Mana after completing the Friendship Beyond Words sidequest.
Echoes of Mana
- Eoren's overall motive to stop the cycle of alm sacrifice to save someone dear to him is very similar to Dema's plan to rewrite history by using the False Tree to destroy memories of Echoes.
Other
- The Jacque Seed and its purpose is an obvious reference to Jack and the Beastalk.
