Angela is one of the six protagonists in Trials of Mana.
Background[edit]
Angela is the young princess and heir to the throne of Altena, Kingdom of Magicians. As the castle is encased in a frozen snowfield, the True Queen, monarch of Altena and mother of Angela dispenses her magic to warm the whole vicinity. However, Her Majesty's powers have weakened recently, and the cold air encroaches bit by bit upon the castle walls. In her youth, the young princess was often ignored by her matriarch, only to receive scolding for her antics. This left the girl starving for attention and prone to pulling pranks on her fellow castle-dwellers. Her notable lack of magic-casting was yet another blow to her self-esteem, which further aggravated already fraught relations with her mother.
History[edit]
Trials of Mana[edit]
- “REBELLIOUS PRINCESS OF ALTENA, KINGDOM OF MAGICIANS -- Angela is the only daughter of the True Queen of Altena, the snow-covered kingdom of magicians. Because Angela's mother hardly spent any time with her as a child, the princess was prone to act out to get attention, wearing gaudy clothes and playing pranks on people in the castle. Despite this, her love for her mother runs deep. Angela never got the hang of casting magic spells, a problem that plagues her to this day.”

The only daughter to the True Queen of Altena, Angela is first seen being summoned in the throne room after flunking her magic lessons with José. There she learns that the Crimson Wizard and the True Queen plan to use her as a sacrifice to cast the forbidden spell required to open the portal to the Sanctuary of Mana. The True Queen deemed her sacrifice would finally prove her daughter's usefulness after being incapable of casting magic for so long. A distraught Angela proceeds to warp herself out of the castle by sheer emotional burst. The stranded princess has no choice but to wander aimlessly through the Frostbite Fields, eventually collapsing from the cold. She is fortunately rescued by some townsfolk and is guided by a local Fortune-Teller to seek advice from the Priest of Light from Wendel. She decides to take a ferry to Jadd Stronghold in hopes of meeting His Eminence.
Angela shares many story elements with Duran, hailing from Valsena, Kingdom of the Plains, who is being invaded by Altena. If either of them is chosen as the main protagonist, the main villain will be the Dragon Lord and the last dungeon will be Dragonsmaw. After her quest is completed, the young princess returns to her homeland, bemoaning her lack of magic since Mana power has disappeared from Fa'Diel. If Duran is in the party at the end of Angela's campaign, she will overtly hint that she has developed feelings for him.
Circle of Mana[edit]
Angela makes a cameo appearance in the online game, along with several Trials of Mana characters. She appears in 44 sets of cards.

General information[edit]
Physical appearance[edit]
Angela is a young woman with long lilac hair and green eyes, described as the image of her mother the True Queen. However, she also has tapered ears, not unlike those of elves. In her default Magician class, Angela's outfit consists of a red leotard with a wrap-around garment at the waist that forms a cape, along with a purple hair ornament, choker, gloves, and boots.
In the remake, her clothing is trimmed with gold accents, her boots have long Oriental points as well as more defined high heels, and these along with her cuffs and choker are adorned with gemstones. She also sports a pair of jewel earrings In both versions, she wields wands and staves as weapons.
Personality[edit]
Owing to a lack of support from her mother, Angela has developed a rebellious air. She was known to play pranks on the Queen's courtiers, for which she was scolded frequently. She often views others as below her and has a quick temper, demonstrated when events do not go her way. Her stubbornness has caused some friction between her and the court mage José, as she has skipped his lessons at times.
Her portrayal in the remake is that of a spoiled princess, when in reality she struggles with her lack of ability as well as rejection by the Queen. In the English script, she speaks in a dialect typical of Southern California.
Profile and statistics[edit]
In the 2D version, Angela starts with high Intellect and Spirit, average Luck, and low Strength, Dexterity, and Stamina, making her a typical mage-like character. In her base class the spellcaster can learn several elemental moves should she meets with Elementals. Down her light path, she can further improve her magic by casting stronger elemental spells. If the player takes her dark path, however, Angela's casting movepool is greatly reduced. On the flipside, her Intellect stat is higher, making her spells hit harder. Her two final dark classes grant access to a multitude of high-level offensive spells.
In the HD version, Angela boasts excellent Intellect and Spirit, average Luck, and pitiful Strength and Stamina. Unsurprisingly, her abilities are centered around dealing magic damage and avoiding enemy's spells. Her light path mainly boosts her magical attacks and grants perks with MP management. On her dark path, her abilities are a little more varies depending on her becoming a Rune Seer or a Magus, the former prioritizing status effects boosts while the latter allows ever more raw magical attack power.
