Kevin is one of the six protagonists in Trials of Mana.
Background[edit]
Kevin is the son of the King of Ferolia and heir to the throne. Kevin was born to a human woman, making him half-Beastman. His mother having abandoning him in the forest at birth, his lupine father decided to raise him as a fighting machine devoid of emotions, leaving him lacking in social skills as he had little time to interact with others. One night, the young prince stumbled on a slain mother wolf and her pup. The two quickly bonded over their similarities, making Kevin name his furry friend Karl. The young prince frequently escaped the fortress walls to spend time with the wolf pup.
History[edit]
Trials of Mana[edit]
- “SON OF THE KING OF THE FEROLIAN BEASTMEN -- Kevin is heir to the throne of Ferolia. His father is the king of the beastmen, but his missing mother was a human woman. Kevin's father raised him to be a fighting machine, which affected his social skills. He is unused to conversing with humans, which can make him hard to understand at times. The ice around the young boy's heart only began to melt after making friends with Karl the wolf pup.”

A mysterious visitor enters Ferolia's throne room, claiming he can be of service to the King. The latter refuses at first, but eventually gives the strange character a chance to prove himself. Meanwhile, Kevin and Karl as seen relaxing in Duskmoon Forest. As they are about to head back to the castle, the two friends are mysteriously manipulated into fighting each other, ultimately resulting in Karl's death. Devastated by the incident, the young prince erects a grave to honor his departed friend before heading back to Ferolia. Here he discovers the truth about Goremand tricking him and Karl into battling senselessly, which angers Kevin to the point to attacking his father, who easily disposes of him by sending him flying to the forest. There, Kevin learns from Goremand he could bring his friend back to life should he ask the Priest of Light in Wendel. With no other choice than to listen to him, Kevin departs to the Holy City, hoping to make it in time before the Beastman cavalry seize the area.
Kevin shares many story elements with Charlotte, the beauty of Wendel, who is being invaded by the Beastmen. If either of them is chosen as the main protagonist, the main villain will be the Masked Mage and the last dungeon will be the Mirage Palace. After completing his quest, Karl returns to confront his father about killing Karl, but is astonished to see his wolf friend alive and well. The King of Ferolia explains that Goremand's magic made him look lifeless, and that he saved him form the grave Kevin dug up for him. The young prince apologizes for his brashness and discovers that her mother actually passed away instead of leaving him in the forest as he was previously awared of. His father declares he's proud of what's he's become and Kevin vows to continue training to eventually surpass him.

General information[edit]
Physical appearance[edit]
Kevin is a young man with a muscular body, spiked blond hair, amber eyes and dark skin. He wears a yellow vest and pants with green-shaded tiger prints and a green sash. His bare feet are bandaged, and he wears a fur collar, blue wristbands, and a necklace holding a single claw. On his head is a dark cap with a plume of pink fur.
The remake leaves his appearance generally unchanged. The green parts of his clothing are changed to be a bluershade, his sash is trimmed with tassel-like ends, and he wears an additional fabric patterned belt over his sash. His wristbands are replaced with leather braces, and he wears additional jewellery as bracelets round his upper arms, and he's still barefoot while his feet are more completely wrapped. His weapons are fist-load weapons with claw attachments.
Personality[edit]
Kevin is portrayed as honest, caring, but quick to anger over threats or slights. He is also determined to reach a goal, as instanced by his pursuit of the Mana Sword. Despite being able to harbor a deep resentment, he also quickly forgives when his grudge is proven wrong or the people in question repent.
In the English versions, he speaks in broken English, leaving out common or stop words such as "it" and "the". The remake expands upon his personality. He has an engrained naivety which makes him suggestible and easy to manipulate up to a point. He is also notably unable to follow complex or esoteric terminology.
Profile and statistics[edit]
In the 2D version, Kevin starts with high Stamina, average Strength and Dexterity, and low Intellect, Spirit, and Luck. At night, he can transform at night in a werewolf, greatly increasing his attack power and range of his fists and kicks. He is also the only playable character in the game to have two class strikes. His light path allows him to gain supportive spells such as Healing Light and Pressure Point, the latter granting him an attack boost similar to those while in werewolf form. His dark path contains very few moves, but compensate in providing even more strength.
In the 3D version, His stats vary significantly, having now excellent Strength, high Luck, average Spirit, and low Stamina and Intellect. His defaut class can grant abilities specialized in boosting physical attack and defense. Should the player choose the light path, the abilities recieved focus on attack, defense, and filling up the CS Gauge. The dark classes allow Kevin to deal even more damage to opponents and grant semi-invulnerable state for a short while.

Equipment[edit]
Kevin for the most part utilizes gloves, claws, and knuckle weaponry to augment his martial arts and fist fighting; as he progresses later in terms of classes, Monk weapons will focus more on gloves and fists with a pacifist and self defense angle, or help simply augment the dynamics of techniques and the martial arts, while Brawler weapons will focus on haphazard and more dangerous knuckles and claws for the purpose of fighting dirty, bringing on pain, and targeting weaknesses to exploit.
Non-Mana appearances[edit]
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[edit]
Kevin appears in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius as a rare summon.

Trivia[edit]
- If Charlotte is not added to the party, and Kevin is the main hero, she argues that she's 15, which leaves Kevin in disbelief, and he reveals that he's 15 as well.
- Some of Kevin's classes have influence from different ascetic groups, most notably the Monk and the Brawler classes. They appear to have influence from G.I. Gurdjieff's work, Fourth Way, and their own respective associated religions.
- Monk is based on Shaolin Buddhist monks, while the Brawler (Bashkar) class seems to be based on the Muslim-inspired Fakir, said to attain self mastery through intense physical training and feats. Their possible class change to the Enlightened class, is also a large connection between the two classes.
- His body and head equipment shown in his Divine Fist (Godhand) class artwork is erroneous, as they are the Suzaku Uniform and the Ruby Headband for the Enlightened Dark/Light class.
- In the 2020 remake, leftover ??? seeds will produce Kevin's opposite dark class item if planted - light seeds for Death Aura, dark seeds for Mage Aura. This is only noticeable when resetting class or switching the party via New Game Plus.
