The Altar of Time is a dungeon in Sword of Mana. It's part of the arid region of Menos-Jadd at the south center of the world, and it's located at the east of the Jadd Desert, after activating a switch in Dune Maze and revealing the secret passage at the top of the cliff, where there is a sand rivers maze.

Story[edit]

As the Hero[edit]

After the events at Devius Manor, the Hero accompanied by Amanda make their way through the desert labyrinth to search for the Altar of Time, a place built by the Mavoles according to some people information, where Lady Medusa and Lester have gone.

Once venturing into the desert, they finally find the secret passage to the location.

Arriving there, they enter a chamber and find Medusa with some birds, as soon as they get closer, the birds fly away. Without delay, Amanda asks her to change Lester back to human, after being turned into a bird by her.

In turn, the Hero will notice the unusual scenery with the sand stopped and the strange hourglass in there, feeling the danger he tries to warn Amanda, but she doesn't pay attention, asking Medusa to undo the spell again. Then, the Hero also notices that Medusa has a lute in her hands.

Amanda insists over again, but suddenly, Medusa will tell her to stop and not take her time and memory, and soon will knocks Amanda out.

Lady Medusa keeps asking to not take her family memories, and not take Granz and her children from her.

Hearing Granz's name, the Hero is surprised. Amanda gets up, tries to call her but in vain, soon Medusa transforms into a monster form and a battle ensues.

After the battle, Medusa faints, following this, Bogard and the Heroine enter.

As the Heroine[edit]

Arriving at Devius manor, the Heroine and Bogard discover from Genoa that Medusa, Granz's wife, had turned everyone there into birds, and that she went to the Altar of Time.

After crossing the desert, the Heroine finally enters with Bogard in the Altar of Time, there, they find the Hero, Amanda and Medusa on the floor weak.

Both stories continuation[edit]

Bogard asks them to help with Medusa, in turn, the Heroine summons Wisp's magic and heals her.

Medusa will stand up, and will speak briefly with Bogard. She will say that this is her end, and asks for the lute that belongs to her husband, as the Hero gives it to her, he understands now that Lord Granz was her husband.

Realizing that he knows Granz, Medusa hands the instrument to the Hero's care, then warns them that to undo the spell they will needed her blood.

Thanking Lester for his music, she asks for Granz, who Bogard lies saying is still alive and tired. Finally, after asking Bogard to take care of Granz and the children, she dies.

Suddenly, Devius and the Dark Lord appear, Devius sees his mother dead and despairs, while the Dark lord is surprised to see Bogard and the Heroine.

Devius teleports Medusa's body, which makes it impossible for the group to have her blood, and then, in anger and grief, gives the key to the sanctuary to the Dark Lord.

Enraged, the Dark Lord replies that the Mana clan has already betrayed their mother, and they cannot let them go unpunished, but Devius intervenes, saying that he will take care of punishing them himself. The Dark Lord agree and thus teleports his way out.

Devius tries to find out who had done that, and Bogard gets in the way and is teleported.

Still angered by his grief, Devius says it's not over yet, and challenge whoever did it to go to his manor for a reckoning.

Suddenly, a strange energy runs through Amanda, who feels strange and Devius leaves. Amanda claims to have been bitten by Medusa and start to feel her blood boiling and begins to transform in a medusa, then she attacks the Heroine.

Lester, still in bird form begins to sing her song causing her to stop, Amanda regain consciousness for a moment and tells the Hero that she feels like someone is controlling her, and asks them to leave before she kills them.

The Hero denies it, remembering the promise they made to always be together, but she says it's useless and tell she's happy to see him again one last time before dying, and asks as a final request, that he kill her before she turns into a monster like Medusa, and he does.

Quickly, he asks the Heroine to bring her back, using her magic which she is succeeds.

Amanda revives and asks to give her blood to Lester, who then reverts back to human form. Then, she apologizes to Lester for having left him, and thanks the Hero asking him to take care of the Heroine, soon she dies in peace.

The Hero laments, and the Heroine comforts him. Lester briefly converses with them, and tells them to go find Bogard, the Heroine agrees to put her grief aside for now and go after him. Soon the Hero promises that no one else will suffer like Amanda and agrees to seek Bogard and stop Devius and the Dark Lord. Shortly after, the scene cuts with them returning to Devius Manor.
