The Airship is a location and dungeon in Sword of Mana. It's where the Heroine is held hostage, in her story, this is where she starts right after the events of Wendel. As for the Hero, the Airship is located westside of Lake Vicinity, once entering the Airship it will leave immediately. In both cases, after events here, there is no point of return to this location, so most objects are missable.
Story[edit]
As the Heroine[edit]
In the events in Wendel, after being knocked out and taken by Julius and the Dark Lord, the Heroine has a memory with her mother, soon, she awakens on the Airship next to a mysterious woman.
As the Dark Lord enters the room with Julius, she confronts them, accusing for killing the people of her village. The Dark Lord reply and offers her to join him, but she denies.
Julius tries to convince the villain to use another method to extract the secret of mana from her, but he refuses, and leaves the Heroine in charge of the mysterious woman, called Marley. He then reveals that the Airship is heading to Granz's Castle, so there's still plenty of time to reconsider the offer, and the two leaves.
The Heroine starts looking for a way out, but Marley refuses, saying she has been a Granz's servant for a long time. After asking about Granz, Marley shares her knowledge, among other things, revealing that the Dark Lord is the son of Lord and Lady Granz, also that Vandole sought out Cibba to learn about the Mana power, and when he went to the sanctuary, he became tempted by this power.
Ending this dialogue, the maid suggests to go sleep, the Heroine agrees and asks the other to leave, the Heroine then asks herself if Bogard and the Hero are okay, and the scene cuts.
The next day, the Airship starts to shake, the Dark Lord enters the room and soon one of his soldiers reveals that it is a consequence of a reactor malfunction, and they are looking for the cause. Another soldier enters and says that the outside of the reactor shows signs of magic tampering, after a while, the Dark Lord orders to prepare to land the Airship on Westlake. Then, after failing persuading her, the Dark Lord leaves.
Resuming control of the protagonist, talking to Marley she suggests the Heroine to read a book. Going to the desk, the Heroine feels a magical power coming from a book and begins to read it, in short time, she discovers that there are several secret passages and that the room was previous to Lady Granz, Marley, however, does not say her name due to it being cursed.
Reading the diary again, she discovers that the closet with the Asp emblem has a secret passage, convincing Marley to leave, the Heroine prepares to escape. Wisp will appears, and after reveals that it was him who breaks the reactor, will soon leaves, and the Heroine ventures into the ship.
Going to another room, hidden the Heroine overhears the Dark Lord talking to Isabella about his mother Medusa, in which he argues that if he has the Mana power, he will be able to save her.
Suddenly, a soldier will enter the room and report that the Heroine escaped, and Marley was taken away too. Thereby, the Dark Lord orders to see Julius, but since he is holed up in his room, the Dark Lord will soon leave the room after him, leaving Isabella there.
When the Heroine leaves the closet, she is discovered by Isabella. After questioning her intent with the Dark Lord, Isabella will say to have joined him for being a Mavole and that they always look for bonds with strong rulers, but also calmed her down by telling her that she is not her enemy.
The Heroine speaks that she must save Marley, so the other one discover that she is the fugitive. After a conversation, Isabella lets the Heroine go warning her to be careful with Julius, which is neither human and neither a Mavole, so the Heroine leaves the room.
When this happens, one of the soldiers discovers her, and she demands to see Julius, but the Dark Lord appears. Telling him that she wants to save Marley, he is surprised that she doesn't see the maid as her enemy, so he asks her to follow him.
Going to one of the rooms, they find Julius and Marley. Soon, the Heroine tells Julius that she ran away alone, the Dark Lord will also intervene to spare Marley, but Julius does not agree, claiming that in doubt the law of punishing must be fulfilled. This angers the Dark Lord who demands Julius to release Marley, but he mocking him to not let his emotions get the better of him.
Marley then asks the Dark Lord if he truly desires the total destruction of the Mana clan. Knowing this intention, the Heroine will gets anger and even dares him to kill her now, but will demand that Marley be left out of it.
However, Julius will declare that the Dark Lord's thoughts have changed, and all he wants is the key to Mana's sanctuary, so he asks the Dark Lord to entrust him with the Secret of Mana, who agrees. Therefore, Julius asks them to leave for the Granz realm, and Marley and the Dark Lord get out of the scene.
Once they are leaved alone, Julius starts to torture the Heroine by casting dark magic spells on her several times, and asks her where is the key. The airship shakes as it departs, and the scene cuts again, moving now to the intersection of the two stories (SEE BELOW).
Following the conflict between Julius and the heroes, after the Hero fall from the Airship, the Dark Lord reappears. Cibba gets up, and recognizes him as Granz's son, try to convince the Dark Lord that his parents' love was legitimate even surpass the limits between humans and Mavoles, which makes possible to form Granz realm. However, the other one will deny, accusing Granz for abandoning his mother and brother, the same way the Mana Clan did to his mother, whom they could have saved with their magic.
Cibba tells the Heroine to look for the truth and leaves the scene. A soldier enters and says that the magic is too strong, and if it continues like this the airship will go down, the Dark Lord orders to treat the Heroine's wounds and the soldier leaves with her.
After a brief reflection of Julius, the scene opens in the airship corridor, which the soldier taking the Heroine reveals to be Bogard. He will say that they need to break the reactor, causing the Airship make an emergency landing, and that one of the soldiers has the key to the place.
So, joining her, the two make their way down the airship. Eventually, defeating a soldier the Heroine gains the knucks as a weapon, and later, they also end up finding the control room's key to the reactor. Inside there, the Heroine hears a strange noise, soon Bogard suspects that something is watching it, a monster appears and a battle begins.
After the battle, Gnome appears, seeing that he was trapped by a very strong magic, they ask who trapped him, which he reveals that it was Vandole, and soon joins the Heroine.
The Airship shakes when losing altitude, in a cutscene, it will descend and collides near Menos Outskirts, where the story continues.
As the Hero[edit]
After the events in Wendel, the Hero leaves west passing through Gaia's Cave until reaching Lake Vicinity. Arriving there, he meets Cibba, who joins him to rescue the Heroine in the airship landed on the lake.
Once they enter, the airship will departs immediately, so the two make their way in the dirigible, including by breaking some windows.
On the outside, Cibba will feel magic coming from a room, and the scene cuts, moving to both stories intersection (SEE BELOW).
Following the conflict between Julius and the heroes, falling from the sky onto grass in another land, the Hero is found still alive by a mysterious woman, who recognizes him and takes him to her home in Menos Village.
Both Stories intersection[edit]
Inside the room, the Heroine is being interrogated by Julius, who demands to know about a key. After a while, he will say that he can see the Heroine's true colors, which she is unaware of, then asks about who is her real mother, only to leaves her confused.
Refusing to answer him again, Julius will attack and try to kill her, but Cibba will intervene casting a sacred magic on him.
After a brief dialogue, Julius will retaliate by casting a spell knocking Cibba down, the Hero will try to battle against the villain but the Heroine will stop him. Shortly after, she will gives him the key, which opens the way to the Mana sanctuary, and asking him to escape. Julius casts a spell on him and knocks the Hero out of the Airship.
