Duran switching to his Liege class

Class change is a recurring game mechanic in the Mana series.

Overview[edit]

History[edit]

Final Fantasy Adventure/Adventures of Mana[edit]

Main article: Training regimen

While Sumo cannot change class, the player has the opportunity to select a training regimen for the young knight every type he levels up. By choosing between the Warrior, Mage, Monk, or Sage regimen (Stamina, Power, Wisdom, or Will growth types in Final Fantasy Adventure), the player can influence the hero's stat growth to their liking.

Trials of Mana & Trials of Mana HD[edit]

The changing of classes debuts as a plot point in Duran's story arc. in which he believes that his inability to do so contributed to his failure against the Crimson Wizard. He thus hopes that the Priest of Light in Holy City Wendel will tell him how, so that he may confront and overpower the man who nearly killed him and overtook Valsena.

Beyond the significance to the original plot, the class-change system allows each of the three chosen heroes to progress through three of their seven preset classes, the first being their default class and the remaining pair attained under specific conditions as the story progresses: the first class change can be initiated at level 18 when the party visits any of the Mana Stones; and the second can be initiated at the Sanctuary of Mana at level 38 with special items in hand.

The remake allows for a bonus third class change, significant to its own subplot yet adding little to the heroes themselves.

Sword of Mana[edit]

Players can allocate one point to the hero or the heroine to a specific class type every time their level up. The six class types are Warrior, Monk, Magician, Sage, Thief, and Random. Once the player has put 5 points into a type (or multiple for the Random type), they a locked into a class tree and changes class. Players will need to allocate more points into each class types to switch to advanced classes. Each class names and statistics are based on Trials of Mana classes.
