The Abandoned Mine, is a location and a dungeon in Sword of Mana. It's part of the pictoresque region of Wendel at the world's southeast, is connected to the south of its entrance with Path to Mine. Following the Hero's story, once the protagonist reaches there, he will enter the mine automatically and cannot leave until completes it.

Story

As the Hero

Once the entrance to Gaia Cave is blocked, the Hero is warned by the dwarves of Dwarf Cave that he will need mythril to continue his path, which is found, however, in the mine full of monsters.

Upon arriving there, he joins forces with the dwarf Watts, who is also looking for the ore and the two enter the mine.

After running over some carts, at a certain point, they defeated some Insectaur and gained a Sickle as a weapon.

Deep in the mine, they will find a mythril lode, but suddenly, a strange voice will speak and they will be attacked by the summoned monster Ankheg. After the battle, Watts will congratulate the Hero, and the Dudbears will appear by a shortcut created by them, so the two return to Dwarf Cave.

Once defeating the boss, the Hero can go back into the mine, and going through the left side of the entrance he will find out that some Dudbears made their home there, called Dudbearz Howser.

As the Heroine

Although it has no relevance to this story, later in the game, after gaining access to the cannons, the Heroine can visit the area, to explore it, but cannot go deeper due to not having access to the mine carts. She can visit the dudbears who live here.
