The Hydra is a recurring boss in the Mana series. It is a two headed dragon with long necks and a stout body that lurks in bodies of water. Its coloring is either orange or green or even blue and purple depending on the game.

It attacks by biting and spewing fireballs at Sumo and the Mysterious Traveler in the orginal Game Boy installment. In the following game, the Hydra can summons currents underneath a party member to impede their movement and hurls powerful flames at them.

The Hydra is found guarding the Moon Mirror necessary to unlock the path further into Kett Manor. The protagonist teams up with a mysterious traveler to traverse the Marsh Cellar and defeat the huge beast. Players can earn the Book of Fire and the aforementioned artifact upon killing it.

It the original Game Boy game, the sea creature endlessly zigzags back and forth around the pool of water in an up and down fashion. It hurls fireballs at the protagonist while moving.

In Adventures of Mana, the Hydra’s movement patterns are more precise and tries to follow Sumo’s position. It can now spit its fireballs at an angle. Defeating it will reward the player with the Hydra Harrier achievement.

After the Empire has risen the Sunken Continent, Randi and his friends are tasked by Gemma to pursue Emperor Vandole before he and his generals manage to activate the Mana Fortress. The party catches up to them in the Underground City, but Fanha unleashes the Hydra to stall them.

In the original SNES game, the Hydra can use Current or use on of its heads to deal damage to the heroes. It can also use Fire Breath to set them on fire and can even inflict poison on contact.

In the 2010 mobile version, the Hydra moves its heads a little bit faster.

In the HD remake, the boss can now use Acid Storm.

A weaker boss named Jabberwocky fought earlier in the game bears the original Final Fantasy Adventure palette.
