The Batmo, also known as Blat or Bloodsucker, is a recurring enemy in the Mana series. These round bats have been appearing in almost every single installment since their inception in Secret of Mana. Like some real bat species, they can emit high-pitched frequencies to disorient their opponent.

General Information[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

Batmos have blue rounded bodies with matching bat wings with red interior. Some depictions show them having cephalothoraxes while others have a head and a body. In the latter example, they have pig snouts and large ears, resembling real bats. All games sprites and art have Batmos sporting tiny fangs protuding from their mouths. Some modern depctions of the monster add a forked tail to their backside.

Attributes[edit]

Batmos are almost always seen in underground settings or in dark places, such as forests, ruins, and dungeons. In some games with a time cycle, they appear in the open at night to feast on noctural wildlife.

Since they favor darkness over daylight, Batmos are naturally inclined to harness the power of Shade and in turn are often weak to Wisp magic. Some games make them also weak against earth spells and strong against wind.

Variants[edit]

Batmos have some stronger relatives appearing in a few games.

  • Dark Batmos, also known as Grave Bats are the most common variants and can absorb life energy from its bite.
