The Minotaur is a recurring enemy in Mana series. Debuting in Final Fantasy Adventure as a regular enemy, it eventually got promoted as a boss in Secret of Mana. The Minotaur is depicted as a muscular bipedal creature with a bull's head. The color of its body varies between shades of brick red to a light yellow. While the original artwork had it with quite a simple design, the Secret of Mana one made the monster taller and added a wrestling attire.

Starting with Secret of Mana, The Minotaur is aligned with the Earth element and therefore is weak to Wind magic. It attacks by ramming their target by extending their horns at them, or even punch the unsuspecting prey. Finally, it can cast magic to boost its defense or rain down rubble on the party. Its ultimate attack in Echoes of Mana consists of extending its arms and spinning aroud the arena for a while. Like its mythological origins, the Minotaur as a boss is fought inside maze-like structures.

Gameplay[edit]

In the original SNES game, The Minotaur would try to ram into the party by extending its horns or puch his arms to the ground, making the targets unconscious. It could cast Defender on itself to boost its defense power, or use Earth Slide to deal magical damage. After sustaining enough damage, the Minotaur would turn red and continuously charge the party until its defeat.

The Minotaur appears in the Labyrinth of Lost Heroes side story. Escad finds himself warped into the Minotaur Labyrinth after a confrontation with faeries. There, he meets with several other adventurers and must learn the virtues of cooperation and friendship so he and his companions can get out of the maze. They eventually find the exit once the foul creature is slaught.

Gameplay[edit]

The Minotaur was a Gnome-elemental boss and thus was weak to Sylphid attacks. He could punch and extend its horns forward. It could also cast Earthquake to deal damage to a large area. After losing about a quarter of its health, the Minotaur could activate the labyrinth's traps, allowing to charge its Grand Slam attack. It could also do a Twister Fists attack by extending its arms and spinning across the arena. Finally, the Minotaur would turn red after losing 3/4th of its health.

A black variant of the creature, called the Riftspire Minotaur, could be encountered on Gingham Riftspire's 90th floor.
