Basket Fish is a major ally character in Legend of Mana and a recurring character in the Mana series.

Background

A 5-year-old anthropomorphic fish, Basket Fish is a nouveau-riche who has rapidly risen in wealth and social status owing to his acquisition of a Jumi core of sapphire that is known as the "Blue Eye". Extremely pompous and condescending towards everyone he encounters as a result, he is therefore viewed with much disdain, especially Revanshe, a dancer whom he carries a torch for.

History

Legend of Mana

“One of the nouveau-riche who looks down on everyone, but in reality he is the one who is looked down upon by everyone else. He LOOOOOOVES Revanshe the dancer.”
In-game Encyclopedia

Drowned Dreams

Basket Fish arrives at the Seaside Hotel in Polpota Harbor, promptly calling the protagonist a beggar right in the entrance. He rents the entire hall for himself, and goes in a blink to see Revanshe. Later in the event, he is asked by Thoma and Inspector Boyd to show the Blue Eye. Reluctant at first, he quickly gives in when Revanshe shows interest in it too. By the time the jewel flashback ends, Inspector Boyd comes from the main hall asking about the Blue Eye. Confused, Thoma asks him had him not seen the flashback just now. Inspector Boyd instantly enrages, as the jewel is long gone. Sandra was disguised as him and took the oportunity to steal the jewel.

Past the robbery of the Blue Eye, Basket Fish is now poor and needs to work on the hotel, right alongside Revanshe, probably much to her disdain.

General information

Physical appearance

Personality

Having inherited an immense fortune at an unstated point of time before the events of Legend of Mana, Basket Fish is not particularly modest and reserved about the fact; he instead chooses to adopt an attitude that is repugnant snobbish and condescending, blatantly demeaning those who are of inferior financial statuses. This is true in Drowned Dreams, where he is observed to be pointedly rude and vulgar to everyone he interacts with him, going so far as to refer to the Hero/Heroine as a "beggar".

Further adding on to Basket Fish's deprecating character is the fact that he is one who is consumed by lust, a fact that sees him shamelessly hounding Revanshe with revolting declarations of his infatuation with her, despite her repeated protests against his crude advances.
