Background[edit]
32 years of age, Mephianse is the principal of the Academy of Magic that is located in Geo, commanding magical power whose potency is equivalent to that of two sorcerers combined. Joining him in the superintendence of the Academy of Magic are a small handful of colleagues, including Kathinja, Thesenis and Nunuzac.
History[edit]
Legend of Mana[edit]
- “A professor at Geo's Academy of Magic who has a strong passion for magic.”
- —In-game Encyclopedia
Can't Look Back[edit]
Mephianse has brought a students's class in a field trip to the Fieg Snowfields. He tells them to go look for the faeries's treasure, but has his own secret reasons to visit the frosty plains. He wants to see his long lost brother Nakratos who was encased in ice. Telling the students to leave and head back to Geo, he rushes back to a secret area, where he meets with the snow witch Crystalle and asks if his brother is still alive. She replies of the affirmative, stating he's the one telling everyone he's dead. She then adds he must have acclimated to the frigid temperatures as of now and turn into a snow monster. He's now resting at the garden of icicle flowers, but Mephianse wants to send him to the Underworld along with his wife. Nakratos is slain by the protagonist and Mephianse rewards them with a Rusty Anchor artifact.
Reach for the Stars[edit]
The principal stole a precious grimoire from the Academy of Magic and took off for the Duma Desert. He gathered some of his students to test out its magic spells. Kathinja went to the desert with her pupils to look for him, but cannot find him. With the aid of the protagonist, they find the eccentric professor who memorized the whole book in the process and claims to be in the middle of a summoning spell that will bring about the end of the world by making all stars fall from blasting a powerful spell from a cannon. After taking care of his mildly annoying grunts, Kathinja and the hero watch in bewilderment as the cannon shoots up multiple fireworks.
Catchin' Lilipeas[edit]
Mephianse is mentioned by Reverend Nouvelle in The White Forest. The scholar tells the main character the principal of the Academy of Magic is the only one to have studied the Lilipeas and argued they were descendents of Anuella's dolls.
Circle of Mana[edit]
Mephianse makes a cameo appearance in the online game, along with several other characters from the Mana series. He appears in 1 set of cards.
General information[edit]
Physical appearance[edit]
Personality[edit]
In juxtaposition to his grim, sombre and hostile appearance, Mephianse is in possession of a character that is notably benevolent, fun-loving and friendly.
Mephianse's benevolence particularly shines through in Can't Look Back, where he proves to be immensely responsible in ensuring the welfare of the students accompanying him on his trip to the torturous Fieg Snowfields; while searching for clues leading to the discovery of his missing brother, he keeps his students from risking death by insisting that they remain in front of an enchanted fire in a makeshift campsite. Mephianse's generosity is also explicated in Alexandrite, where he permits Pearl to retrieve a key to Diana's heart from his office without questioning her motives.
Mephianse's love for fun is quite phenomenal, as he is known to go to fairly extreme lengths in order to entertain himself. This is best illustrated in Reach for the Stars, where he stages an elaborate prank to dupe Kathinja into believing that he intends on casting a terrible spell from a "forbidden spell book" in Duma Desert, when all he has planned on doing is enact a firework display.
