Drakonis is a major antagonist in Legend of Mana and recurring characters in the Mana series.

Background[edit]

Drakonis, the Crimson Dragon, is also called the Archemon of Hell, and is personally assisted by his Dragoon Larc. He is one of the four great dragons of Fa'Diel, along with Akravator, Jajara, and Vadise. It is said he is able to control fire. Long ago, he was known as the Emperor of Dragons and ruled in absolute tyranny. He was robbed of his magical powers and sent into the depths of the Underworld by the combined forces of the three other Dragons as punishment for his lust for power and control. He now wanders the Underworld in a weakened form, swearing revenge on his draconic siblings.

He eventually met Larc and made him swear loyalty as his personal dragoon. To convince him, he made an agreement to share the Mana power Larc would rob from the Mana Stones guarded by the dragons. However, he secretly plotted to sacrifice his dragoon once he outlives his usefulness.

History[edit]

Legend of Mana[edit]

The Fallen Emperor[edit]

The Crimson Dragon is first seen in the Pulpit of Eternal Flame at the deepest level of the Underworld during The Fallen Emperor quest. He has summon the protagonist and tested his strength to see if they are worthy of defeating the other three dragons. He explains to the main character that he wants them to help Larc retrieve his stolen powers the Dragons of the overworld has kept within Mana stones and slay them in the process. He swears to return the protagonist to his previous form if they should perform his request.

The Crimson Dragon[edit]

He is then seen again in The Crimson Dragon quest where he returns to his original form after absorbing all the mana power from the Mana stones, betraying the promise he made with Larc of fighting him to determine a victor. He absorbs Sierra's brother after transforming it into a mindless monster, and rises his castle from the Underworld. He is ultimately defeated by the protagonist and Sierra and sent back into hell presumably forever.

Circle of Mana[edit]

Drakonis makes a cameo appearance in the online game, along with several other characters from the Mana series. He appears in 1 set of cards.

General information[edit]

Physical appearance[edit]

Personality[edit]

Drakonis bears typical mastermind qualities, being power-hungry, ruthless and manipulative in achieving his goals. He is deeply resentful toward his fellow Dragons of Knowledge for imprisoning him in the Underworld. He also has no remorse tricking Larc into thinking he would share the Mana power once he extract it all from the Mana Stones guarded by the dragons of the surface. According to Vadise's speech in The Crimson Dragon, Drakonis's weakness is his loneliness as he has closed his heart to love and trust.
