Bud is a major ally character in Legend of Mana and a recurring character in the Mana series.
Background[edit]
7 years of age, Bud is the orphaned younger twin brother of Lisa and was once a student of Geo's Academy of Magic. Expelled from the Academy of Magic due to being too mischievous, Bud believes himself to be a great sorcerer nevertheless. However, he evidently has much to learn before he can be deserving of such prestige. He and Lisa are introduced to staging a prank involving pumpkins in the outskirts of Domina, but are halted by the protagonist's intervention. The twins are thereafter taken under the wing of the hero, serving as their apprentices. In Daddy's Broom, it reveals that their late father was a school dropout of Geo's Academy of Magic and their magical prowess are inherited by him.
The magical frying pan that he wields as his weapon of choice was once a possession of his late mother.

The Little Sorcerers[edit]

Daddy's Broom[edit]
Lisa is mad at Li'l Cactus because he threw her dad's heirloom broom into the trash. As she runs to the Junkyard to retrieve it, Bud joins the hero to catch up with her. The little girl finds her broom in the middle of a pile of rubbish, but is attacked by an evil presence. Her brother saves her despite all odds and both of them return to safety at the main character's home, with Bud promising her he'll repair the broom.
Li'l Cactus[edit]
The apprentice is aching with a mysterious ailment, prompting Li'l Cactus to venture out to find a cure for him. After multiple stops, the little plant guy returns with a potion in hand to cure Bud.

Bud is mentioned in this quest by one of the Students from Geo. He states that the little guy took Triagran by mistake and ran around all day long, as it makes people's head explode.

Echoes of Mana[edit]

Bud appears along with his sister during the side quest Missed Match Mayhem, where they are forced to listen to a strange Shiloh's rambling about his geeky obsessions. The two little sorcerers are puzzled by their master talking such nonsensical words such as 'DVDs' and 'Streaming', but can't make him stop talking until the real Shiloh comes back. The twins are astonished to see two of their masters at first, but their quickly understand the situation at hand. Toto claims he's lost a prized figuring in his big box he was carrying when he fell into this world, which reminds Lisa of seeing Li'l Cactus carrying a big box inside the Mekiv Caverns. Toto runs to the cave without notice. Bud and Lisa reappears at the end of the episode, revealing their own figures they've decided to craft while the party was chasing after the cactus. This gives others the idea of making their own dolls.
General information[edit]
Physical appearance[edit]
Personality[edit]
As one who befits the profile of a prepubescent child, Bud is a character portrayed as a naively ambitious individual, complete with an insatiable thirst for knowledge and wisdom. This much can be deduced from his repeated assurances to Lisa to eventually mould himself into the "greatest sorcerer" in the world, and his innocent, yet naive, belief that there is a need to seek the advice of the Wisdoms to achieve this end. Bud does have an industrious spirit to counteract his naivety, however; he is known to experiment with the elemental spirits that he has at his disposal to formulate "wicked new spells" for combat purposes.
Bud has also been depicted as incredibly mischievous to a fault, a fact that his in-game profile describes is the principal reason for his being expelled from the Academy of Magic. This fact is evidenced right when he is first introduced in The Little Sorcerers, where he instigates Lisa into cooperating with him to execute his plot of conquering Domina with pumpkins.
During the Jumi arc, Bud is also knowledgable about the Jumi when both Elazul and Pearl had briefly stayed at the Hero/Heroine's home and he tells his sister Lisa that medicine does not work on the Jumi while Elazul was in bedridden due to his core being scratched by Sandra at the Mekiv Caverns to rescue Pearl who is now in its original form as Blackpearl. Like his sister Lisa, Bud can be very emotional upon reuniting with the Hero/Heroine following her revival by Elazul and the rest of the Jumi by shedding their tears to make a new Teardrop Crystal.
