Thesenis is a minor supporting character in Legend of Mana and a recurring character in the Mana series.

Background[edit]

Also known as the Witch of Reincarnation, Thesenis is, alongside Mephianse, Kathinja and Nunuzac, one of few professors presiding over Geo's Academy of Magic. A rather eccentric character who is thickly cloaked in a veil of mystery, Thesenis is avoided by practically everyone in the Academy, save for Kathinja, whom she is personally acquainted with. Although not explicitly elaborated on or even referred to, it is known that Thesenis is the ex-wife of The Deathbringer, once working alongside him as the Mage Minister of his kingdom.

History[edit]

Legend of Mana[edit]

“A professor at Geo's Academy of Magic who is also a witch of reincarnation. She is the most avoided person there, perhaps because of her creepy behavior and appearance.”
In-game Encyclopedia

The Field Trip[edit]

Miss Thesenis gathered her students on a field trip to a campsite near The Bone Fortress. She gave them an assignment to work on their triple-reagent-mixing project. However, many of her pupils have difficulty locating the required ingredients for the potion, even with the help of the local Flowerlings. The protagonist has the option to help the kids find the right material to succesfully finish their work.

The Lucky Clover[edit]

Echoes of Mana[edit]

Thesenis reappears in the second part of the Siren Arc called Siren Arc II: Bone & Brimstone. Im the first act, Pokiehl the poet tells she purchased Elle the siren's voice a while back, making the poor girl's wings slowly withering along with her declining health. Upon learning that Elle's friend is a mermaid and was taken by the Deathbringer's army, she restores the siren's voice back to open a portal to her husband's lair.

Elle finds her best friend before the Deathbringer, but it's aleady to late, as her body has started to dry out and catch fire. The undying emperor tries to get into the inferno, but his body refuses to burst into flames. He turns his wrath to Flameshe, but Elle rushes between them, taking the blow herself. After besting the emperor in a fight, he finds no respite being engulfed in fire. Thesenis is surprised to see this, and is saddened to see her poor husband wincing even in the afterlife. Elle begs the witch to cure her friend, but she replies that this feat is beyond her capabilities. Thesenis adds that the only thing that might quell the flames is to hold her dearest friend in his arm while they burn together. Elle doesn't believe at first to be her best friend since all she does is making mistakes, but she gathers up the courage and leap into the flames. She succesfully douse out the fire, but her wings burns as as result. Flameshe laments the fact she did all she could to help them grow back to health, but Elle replies she did the same thing for her. Flameshe then sacrifices her tail and her friend's wings to Thesenis so she can save her from burning to death. However, the witch states this is not enough, as only her deep friendship would make her accept the bargain. Both of them accept as they are reincarnated and her memories erased.

General information[edit]

Physical appearance[edit]

Personality[edit]

The most obscure of the four professors managing the Academy of Magic, Thesenis is shrouded in a thick veil of mystery, and not much is known about her character. She is known to be eccentric and terrifying in her mannerisms, a fact that is first revealed by Esmeralda in Geo, who divulges that she has a habit of collecting girls' hair, and also in The Field Trip, where she suddenly warps into the scene of the herb gathering unannounced, scaring the students and Flowerlings alike.

The fact that Thesenis is swathed in bandages that resemble those used for mummification could possibly indicate that she is a reanimated corpse, functioning as a nod to her past as the wife of The Deathbringer.
