Background[edit]
Said to be the shadows of all living creatures and the residents of the Underworld, Shadoles came into being during the period of the holy war of ages past, where, following the banishment of Aion, leader of the Faeries, to the Underworld, his refusal to reincarnate compelled him to fashion them from his thoughts. Shadoles are tasked with the duty of bringing the newly departed to the Underworld.
History[edit]
Legend of Mana[edit]
- “Shadows of all living creatures and inhabitants of the Underworld. They share the same consciousness.”

The Fallen Emperor[edit]
Shadoles perform the Baptism of Flame to the main character so they can access the Underworld's lower level per Larc's request.
Diddle Had It![edit]
The duo is seen performing in Lumina, entertaining a gaggle of dudbears, when Diddle suddently leaves again mid-performance. Capella feigns not caring about it, but is visibly angry. He finally settles down and go look for his partner. Diddle is seen being taken away by a group of shadoles. The juggler trail them down to the Macabre Tombstone, and tries to stop the spirits from taking his friend to the Underworld. Diddle replies he cannot go on and wishes he'd be dead, which is why the shadoles are after him. They teleport both of them to the world below. The protagonist is also caught in their net and is forced to fall in the lower floors of hell.
They find Diddle and Capella in the Shrine of the Silent Faces, as the Monkey urges his friend to go back to the surface. His partner refuses, stating he always has fun and people are always entertained watching him, but he doesn't. Capella doesn't recall being happy all the time, but Diddle finds his discourse incoherent and phony. He finds life to be full of grief and strife, and watching Capella perform doesn't make it anything better. The juggler starts to understand and tells his friend he'll try to make the world a better place. Once he'll find it to his satisfaction, Capella will be waiting for him to come back. Diddle tells his partner he won't turn into a shadole, but a flock of them as assembled around him. The monkey tells his friend to get rid of those demonic spirits as he promise he won't laugh of smile if he comes with him to the surface.
Diddle and Capella manage to escape the Underworld while the protagonist takes care of a demonic monster, and the three of them can be seen at the Macabre Tombstone. Diddle asks his partner to stay a while longer there to gaze at the stars. Capella agrees, but only for a short while, otherwise he'll be too happy and break his promise. Diddle tells him it's okay to smile.
Heaven's Gate[edit]
In the epilogue of the Faeries's Arc, A shadole is seen complaining to Olbohn that there are uninvited souls wandering the Underworld without permission. However, the creature is ignored as the newly deceased Matilda has come to the Archemon of Hell's office. He transforms the frail lady into her younger self. The now young Matilda asks if Irwin is here and goes looking for him in the lower levels of hell.
She finds him surrounded by a bunch of Shadoles and chase them away. Irwin is surprised by her powers, but she claims it was the power of the Universe, not hers. She adds he can also create what his soul desires. Irwin states he's a demon born only to destroy, but the priestess replies he created her and helped her forge her own path. Irwin reveals her love made a shadow cast on his heart and only wishes to be reborn as a new demon whose only purpose is to destroy. He disappears into thin air, leaving the young priestess alone sobbing in silence while Selva comes to comfort her.

A shadole welcomes the Harvester and Baashear to the Underworld in the third episode of the second season, Soulpepper: Wandering Bonds. The shadow creature is puzzled as to why they still look alive. They comment about a bunch of living people wandering in hell lately and kindly asks the Harvester to get them out of here.
Another shadole appears in the second part of the Siren Arc called Siren Arc II: Bone & Brimstone. He as Flameshe about a ghost wandering near Polpota Harbor. The mermaid complains about the rumor, saying it's the talk of the town. The shadole tells Flameshe to bring the ghost to them, as it is their job to bring the newly deceased to the Underworld.
General information[edit]
Physical appearance[edit]
Personality[edit]
A mischievous, rambunctious bunch of rascals, the Shadoles delight in playing pranks on all whom they come into contact with, relishing in the inconveniences and annoyances that their victims are subjected to as a result. This is particularly true in Diddle Had It!, where they kidnap Diddle in the name of corrupted fun, and thereafter employing their powers of invisibility to inhibit the Hero/Heroine's quest to rescue him. This very same trick is employed in The Crimson Dragon, where the Shadoles maliciously serve as obstacles to block the Hero/Heroine's pursuit of Drakonis.
