Dudbears are a race of anthropomorphic mix of a badger and bear in Legend of Mana.
Background[edit]
Dudbears are a group of anthropomorphic mammals akin to badgers and small bears. They have their own language called Duddish and usually speak in broken English when they are able to. While some denizens are able to understand them and act as translators, most consider their tongue to be gibberish. They are almost always depicted in groups.
Dubears are shown to be incredibly submissive and credulous at times, and are often relegated to do hard labor under harsh conditions. Nevertheless, this makes them quite resilient and adaptable.

Legend of Mana[edit]

Dudbears slave for Roger's Diggers. Initially leading simple, unperturbed lives as laborers for Roger's mining business, the Dudbears are later forced to join the cult that he constructs around his pet dog Putty.
Players can use the Dudbear Express at the entrance of the Ulkan Mines to fast-travel to different spots of the dungeon.
The Spirits' Light[edit]
Monique the siren needs to sell six lamps for her business to say afloat in Lumina. Gilbert, the lovestruck centaur tells presses the protagonist to sell are her wares so he can impress her and convince her to stay here with him. The protagonist wanders in the moonlit town and learns the dudbear language from the Manager stationed near the boutique. After dealing with several dudbears and selling all the lamps, they run back to the Lamp shop to give the hard-earned money to Monique.
Gilbert: Resume for Love[edit]
Gilbert has been turned to stone by Kathinja and sold to the Diggers in the Ulkan Mines, believing the statue might lessen the frequency of cave-ins. While searching for him, the protagnist can find Roger's book of poems and read it. it reads at such: "Twinkle twinkle, little star, why do you twinkle the way you do? Are you laughing because you're just too happy? Or is the cold wind makes you shiver?" Roger will immediately catch the eavesdropper in the act, telling them not to read his poem without permission. Speaking to him again will trigger a tremor, which prompts Roger to orders the dudbears out the mines.
Buried Treasure[edit]
The SS Buccaneer has docked on the coast of Madora Beach, as women are know to sunbathe with their tops unlaced. There, one of the pirate penguins inform the captain the Dudbears have already found the place, but Tusk reminds his crewmen they badger creatures are known for their greed. He orders the protagonist to use 15 Halo Coins to make distract them. After bribing them with money, the hero finds treasure on a secret beach, but Roger stops him, claiming the booty for the Diggers. The main character gives some Halo Coins to his lackeys, who take the gold and grab their boss away from the treasure boxes. Cap'n Tusk rewards them with a single ore.
Diddle Kidnapped!?[edit]
Roger and his Dudbear disciples has established the St. Mana Church of Domina the above-ground settlement of the Diggers as it was previously abandoned. The religious organization are preparing an expedition to the White Forest and are in need of more manpower. Meanwhile, Diddle tells Capella he doesn't really care about life anymore, but the monkey warns him that a shadole may catch him for thinking that. Diddle states that fun doesn't last long and it feels like he doesn't exist once they're gone. He'd like to make someone happy. A Dudbear suddently makes his entrance and kidnaps Diddle. Cappella runs to his rescue.
The main character ventures into The White Forest and follows the Dudbears directions until they find Diddle next to Roger. He orders his lackey dudbears to keep digging until there's nothing left but a big large hole. Should monsters attack Roger claims Diddle will put them to sleep with his musical talent. Capella manages to find his partner, who is surprised to see him there. Diddle says he's happy to help the Diggers out, but the juggler reminds him they are dangerous bad guys. Roger comes back to fetch Diddle, making Capella panic, but the gruff man states he's not bad. The Diggers try to make people happy but they sometimes end up hurting people in the process. However, the monkey is still not conviced, stating he is probably lying. The dudbears return in a frazzle, alerting their master of a fightening monster nearby. The protagonist defeats the threat, but the Diggers all ran away, proving Capella's point they were up to no good. Diddle replies that it doesn't matter since he had fun.
Where's Putty?[edit]
Putty has been kidnapped by the Pirate Penguins, believing the Diggers will be not threat to them without their revered idol. They escape before the Dudbears guarding the dog wake up, enraging Roger who storms in hearing about his beloved dog crying for help. He blames the protagonist for this and orders him to retrieve His Graciousness. The main character finds the precious pup inside a barrel in the hold of the SS Buccaneer, but he immediately escapes the vessel. He is later found near the beach of Polpota Harbor, with Roger spotting him and telling him to don't hold back and cry his heart out.
Circle of Mana[edit]
Dudbears make a cameo appearance in the online game, along with several other characters from the Mana series. They appear in 1 set of cards.
