Gaia, also known as Gaeus in the original game, is a supporting character in Legend of Mana and a recurring character in the Mana series.
Background[edit]
One of Seven Wisdoms existing in the world of Fa'Diel, Gaia is a huge face carved onto a mountainside located in Luon Highway. He is said to have answers to any question, and will be more than willing to lend a listening ear to the foibles of any NPC character accompanying the protagonist on their travels.

The Wisdom of Gaeus[edit]
Gaia meets with Daena and the main character at the beginning of the Faeries's Arc. The feline monk tells the Wisdom that her friend is dying from a demon curse and she doesn't know what to do about it. Gaia replies to do what her friend wants her to do. Daena complains her friend doesn't want any help and that it was meant to be. Gaia replies she must learn to accept that, but Daena doesn't see it that way. She claims not to understand why her friend is giving up like this. The demon apparently weakened her body and soul, as she was stronger prior to this. The Wisdom declares people are meant to follow their own paths in life. Daena thanks Gaia, promising she will try being more levelheaded from now on. She gives the protagonist a Forbidden Ring before heading back by her lonesome.
The Pursuit of Wisdoms[edit]
Bud wants to meet each of the Seven Wisdoms of Fa'Diel so he can become a great wizard. The apprentice mage goes to Luon Highway to meet Gaia, and the Wisdom mentions the name of the great mage Halciet, who was largely forgotten, but was much greater than Gaia in many ways.
Li'l Cactus[edit]
Li'l Cactus went to Luon Highway to ask Gaia about how to make a potion. He tells the main character he told the little guy to ask Selkie as he is more well-versed in spells and potions than him.
Sword of Mana[edit]
Gaia makes a cameo in Sword of Mana. As will all Seven Wisdoms, the face of the earth can be summoned by the player to deal screen-wide elemental damage to enemies. With 75 Amigos logged by the player, the wisdom can be called upon to unleash huge boulders at enemies, inflicting the Petrify status crisis.
Circle of Mana[edit]
Gaia makes a cameo appearance in the online game, along with several other characters from the Mana series. He appears in 2 sets of cards.

Personality[edit]
Although Gaia is an immobile entity that is devoid of the ability to move about, it is apparent that in spite of his lack of exposure to the world outside of the mountainside of Luon Highway, his personality is one that befits his role as one of seven venerated Wisdoms of Fa'Diel nevertheless; his knowledge of the history of the world and the foibles of its inhabitants is one that is unmatched by all. According to the World History tome, Gaia's deep wisdom is an accidental by-product of the life that Elise, daughter of the Great Witch Anise, breathed onto a rocky hill; his wisdom is said to surpass even his creator's.
As if to complement the soft, gentle appearance of his facial countenance, Gaia is a jovial, amiable entity, taking delight in conversing with visitors. Ever patient in attending to the problems raised by his visitors, he is not known to lose his temper, even if the advice he imparts is met with confusion or violent objections.
