History[edit]
Trials of Mana[edit]
- “Jessica -- Jessica is the daughter of Flamekhan, leader of the noble Nevarlan thieves, and sister of Eagle, Hawkeye's closest friend. She was cursed with the deadly Choker of Death by Isabella.”
- —Adventure Log
Jessica was born in Nevarl Fortress along with her brother Eagle from Flamekhan's second wife whose identity is unknown. She was raised with Hawkeye and the two developed feelings for each other, while this is never officially stated in the game. After rescuing Lord Flamekhan in the desert, the stranger named Isabella rapidly gained influence with the head of state. In fact, the alluring woman was a demoness in disguised tasked to revive the Prince of Mavolia and was hoping to release the Mana Stones's energy to do so. She manipulated His Lordship to invade the Wind Kingdom of Laurent, spreading doubt and suspicion in Hawkeye and Eagle's minds. After returning from a night raid in a nearby town, Isabella declares to Hawkeye that the noble thief guild is disbanded and was revamped as a kingdom, making Flamekhan a king. The young thief shares his concerns with Jessica, who tries to defend her father's intentions, but is immediately rebuked by Hawkeye telling her she just wants to be a princess. This angers the young lady who retreats into her room.
Hawkeye and Eagle decide to eavesdrop on Isabella and Flamekhan and surprise the seductress talking to an eerie-looking man while the new king is asleep. The two friends confront the lady, but she uses her mind-controlling powers to turn Eagle against his friend, forcing them to fight each other and leading Hawkeye to unwillingly kill his friend. Belladonna then framed the young thief for murder and put him in jail. During his stay in his cell, the devious sorceress put a Choker of Death on Jessica, daughter of Flamekhan and Hawkeye's love interest and tell the prisoner not to tell what happened to her lest she dies. Jessica visits Hawkeye later in his cell, pleading him to tell her the truth about the murder. She runs in tears after not being answered.
The daughter of Flamekhan is seen next to Isabella as she is being escorted to the Fiery Gorge and used as a sacrifice to release the energy of the Mana Stone of Fire. Jessica tries to resist but the demoness reminds her she lifted the curse on her Choker of Death and to be grateful of that. As they are about to enter the volcanic area, the trio of main characters catched up to them, so Belladonna left the twin ninjas stall the party while the escapes to the Firestone. By the time she reached it, Jessica passed out from the heath and from wearing the choker for so long, and the party intercepted the sorceress on a bridge. She threatened them not to go any further should she would trow the poor girl into the lava, but is hit by a dart either blown by Hawkeye (if he's not in the party) or Niccolo, forcing Belladonna to escape without Jessica. She nevertheless activates the Mana Stone by using the souls of Bil & Ben instead and mock the protagonist for helping her before vanishing again.
Jessica is next seen recovering in the Oasis of Diin as she was escorted back by Niccolo.
During Hawkeye's ending credits, Jessica and him return to the Nevarl Fortress and is happy to see her father free from Belladonna's brainwashing. In an additional scene the young lad is seen hitting on a lady in Sirhtan while Jessica glares at him in disapproval.
During post-game Chapter 7 exclusive to the HD remake, the Nevarl Fortress has been robbed of all they money reserves while Hawkeye is searching for the elusive Loyal Sphere to gain access to Class 4. Jessica tells him she suspects her late brother hiding the stash away once he saw something amiss with Flamekhan's behavior. She adds that Eagle asked her to tell Hawkeye to search in the Fiery Gorge. The party goes there, and finds the treasure hidden behind a wall. There, they find a holographic message of Eagle telling Hawkeye to convince Jessica not to plunder like the thief's guild used to do and find righteous ways to make a living.
