Heroes of Mana in-game dialogue

Flamekhan is a recurring character in Mana series.

Background[edit]

Flamekhan was born and raised in the Nevarl Fortress deep within the Burning Sands, where he quickly gained social acclaim in becoming a high ranking officer in its army and earned the title of Lord. He had a first wife with whom he conceived his elder daughter Falcon who was trained to be a ninja. He joined the guild of noble thieves at some point in time.

History[edit]

Heroes of Mana[edit]

“The great warrior of Nevarl, right-hand man to Olbex, and Falcon's father. He tried to carry out the sentence of death against his own daughter for the crime of deserting Nevarl, but in the brawl saw in her eyes the strength of her own convictions. He then promised to look after Hawkeye in Falcon were ever to to lose her life in battle--but only as an orphan, not as his own grandchild...”
Notebook

Flamekhan is first mentioned during Chapter 5, Dragon Wings of Reunion, when a Nevarlan deserter named Larkbone visits the Temple of Light in Wendel pleading for the Priest of Light to help his fellow deserters currently pursued by Flamekhan troops after a deal has been made between Pedda and Nevarl. Roget and crew, along with Belgar, the Oracle of Shadows, decide to pitch in and fly to the desert in search for the remaining deserters. In the next chapter, he tries to stop his daughter from escaping, claiming he cannot forgive anyone from abandoning Nevarl and only death awaits those who do so. He leaves them and return to the fortress, plotting for revenge.

The general is seen later in Chapter 13, Have-nots Unforgiving, where he ambush Roget and crew in the Woods of Wandara with the Nevarlan troops. He calls his daughter out for killing off her own kind, while her daughter asks him why he agreed to join forces with Pedda in the forst place. He replies that Nervarlan lands weren't blessed with fertile soil and abundant resources like the other nations of the world did, and with Mana depleting in the world, he'd rather avenge his people and rob the rich from what they have been enjoying so far. He challenges his daughter to a fight but ends up bested by the deserters. This pushes him to restort to a duel where he deals the faster blow to Falcon. This triggers a rumble in the area, pulling the Mana Stone of Wood and its elemental out of their slumber. Falcon tries to reason her father once again, but Flamekhan doesn't waver one bit, saying the Mana Goddess never gave the Nevarlans anything worthwile.

After the Peddan troops retreat from each of the invaded nations, the party decides to head back to Nevarl Fortress in Chapter 19, Forged in the Falling Sands. With their leader Olbex perishing in Laurent, the thieving troops rally beside Flamekhan, their new ruler. The stubborn man refuses to hear reason and battles Roget and crew once again, but the resistance is too strong for the Nevarlans and the desert ruler falls to its knees. Falcon refuses to return to her old creed, but wishes her father raise her son Hawkeye while should something happens to her. He refuses at first, stating he cannot raise him as his grandson, as it is contrary to the law of Nevarl. However he accepts keeping the young child under the condition he is to be considered an orphan. Falcon thanks her and heads back to Roget and crew.

Flamkhan was most certainly affected by Anise's Mirror and had his memory of these past events stripped from him.

Interlude[edit]

With both parents of Hawkeye eventually dying of unknown reasons. Flamekhan keeps his promise and raise the boy has his own son. He also remarries with a second wife who brought him Eagle and Jessica. The three children we raised together and Eagle became Hawkeye's best friend and Jessica his love interest. One day, Lord Flamekhan became stranded in the desert and was rescued by an alluring Lady. She was secretly a demoness from Mavolia working to revive His Dark Majesty, and brainwashed the leader of Nevarl to do her bidding.

Trials of Mana[edit]

During Hawkeye's opening gambit, Belladonna took the name of Isabella while in Nevarl and manipulated Flamekhan into disbanding the Noble guild of thieves and making it a kingdom. Then, she suggested invading the neighboring nations, starting with the wind kingdom of Laurent. The reason behind this, according to her, is that the water supplies of the region have run dry because of the Mana supply and this could deal a heavy strain on the Nevarl Nation in the long run. She explained this decision to Hawkeye who has just returned from a night raid expedition in Sirhtan and arranged a private meeting with Malocchio while Flamekhan was presumadly sleeping. She was caught by Hawkeye and Eagle, the son of Flamekhan, who we spying on her, on assumption she was controlling his father. She uses her mind-controlling powers to turn Eagle against his friend, forcing them to fight each other and leading Hawkeye to unwillingly kill his friend. Belladonna then framed the young thief for murder and put him in jail. During his stay in his cell, the devious sorceress put a Choker of Death on Jessica, daughter of Flamekhan and Hawkeye's love interest and tell the prisoner not to tell what happened to her lest she dies.

After Hawkeye's escape, Belladonna ruled over Nevarl with an iron first, starting with using her mind-control magic on every subject she could find and executing those who figured out her schemes with her summoned monsters. Since Jessica was already under her curse, her mind-control spells couldn't work on her, so she resorted to throwing her in jail. She is also seen throwing Flamekhan in a cell.

Flamekhan doesn't return until Hawkeye's epilogue, where he reestablishes the thief guild in memory of Eagle. He also declares now that Mana power doesn't exist in Fa'Diel, he will put it on himself to harvest water and other natural resources by regrowing plants in the desert, since the desert was once filled with vegetation in the ancient times.
