Heath is a supporting character in Trials of Mana.

History

Background

Heath is the son of Belgar, Oracle of Shadows, who officiated along with the Priest of Light in Wendel. Born and raised in the Temple of Light, he grew to saw his father fall to the evil forces consuming him as he sought to cure a sick girl in vain. This sparked an obsession in his mind to cheat death, but his new dark powers were in vain, since he couldn't save the girl in the end. His use of the forbidden arts was rejected by the Temple of Light, ultimately leading the Priest of Light to banish him from the Holy City. The head of the temple took the young Heath under his wing as he grew up to become a apprentice priest himself and the captain of the Wendellan guard. He befriended the adoptive daughter of the Priest of Light named Charlotte who quickly looked up to him.

During Charlotte's opening gambit, Heath is tasked by the Priest of Light to investigate the strange light phenomenon in Astoria. Believing there is also trouble brewing in the nearby town of Jadd, the Priest of Light tell Heath he will erect a magical barrier at the entrance of Cascade Cavern to prevent intruders coming in. Charlotte, who we spying being a pillar, overhears this, and immediately devise a plan to go after Heath to prevent the young priest from being harmed. She eventually succeeds, and finds Heath in the middle of Rabite Forest being surrounded by beastmen. Heath learns the Ferolian guards are here to invade Wendel as Charlotte runs toward them trying to protect the young priest. He defeats the guards with a Holy Bolt, but is almost immediately hit in turn by dark magic cast by a weird jester. The mysterious man, impressed by his magical feat, brings the unconscious lad to his master's lair in the Mirage Palace. Heath regains consciousness and learns that the Masked Mage running the show is none other than his father who now covets to eradicate human life from Fa'Diel and become their overlord. Heath tries to persuade him not to pursue his plans, but he was ultimately corrupted into the Tainted Soul.

Eventually, the portal leading to the Sanctuary of Mana is opened, and the competing enemy factions of the world head over the holyland to gain the allmighty power of the Sword of Mana. What follows next depends on who is the main character of the story:

• If Duran or Angela is the main character, the Dragon Lord's faction kills the Masked Mage, breaking the mind-controlling spell on Heath, leaving dazed and possibly wandering lost inside the Mirage Palace.
• If Kevin or Charlotte is the main character, the Masked Mage succeeds in killing the Dragon Lord and destroying the remains of the Dark Majesty.
• If Hawkeye or Riesz is the main character, the Prince of Mavolia's faction kills the Masked Mage, breaking the mind-controlling spell on Heath, leaving dazed and possibly wandering lost inside the Mirage Palace.

Provided the main character in Kevin or Charlotte, Goremand kidnaps Faerie while the chosen retrieves the holy blade, and uses her as an exchange for the Sword. The deal is made in Lowenburg capital of Ferolia. The evil jester tries to wield the Sword at first, but its holy powers are no match for him to withstand. The Tainted Soul corrupts the sword with his dark magic, turning the blade into reflecting the heart of its new owner. He then adds that he once followed his Eminence's teachings, but he could not save the world from pain, hence his defection toward the dark side. The both of them head back to Mirage Palace to use the Sword to free the Benevodons inside each Mana Stone and give them to their master.

The party finally defeat all the Benevodons and meets with the Masked Mage at the deepest end of the Mirage Palace, claiming he will absorb the sword's power combined with the Benevodons' to become an immortal soul stronger than the Goddess of Mana herself. As he drains the holy blade, a surge of light within him notifies him of the goddess still being alive. He then vows to destroy her once and for all and rushes to the Sanctuary of Mana. The heroes are forced to deal with the Tainted Soul who, upon defeat, reveals himself to be the son of the Masked Mage and begs the party to stop his father before doom ensnares the world.

In the epilogue of Charlotte's story, Heath has been revived by the Mana Goddess and happily reunites with the young half-elf in the Temple of Light.

Heath makes a cameo appearance in the online game, along with several other characters from the Mana series. He appears in 4 sets of cards.

Echoes of Mana

Heath briefly appears in Chapter 3 of the second season Soulpepper: Wandering Bonds, where he helps the protagonist and crew find Blainchet in the Underworld.

Trivia

• He's the only tertiary antagonist (meaning below the main vilain and the second-in-command) to be the penultimate boss out of the three scenarios.
