Background[edit]
Said to be creatures that seemingly manifest out of nothingness, Sproutlings wind up residing in places that are populated. These creatures are also known to share one common mind. When flowers bloom on the heads of Sproutlings, they will transform into Flowerlings.
History[edit]
Legend of Mana[edit]
- “Little creatures that seem to appear out of nowhere and end up living in any town. They all share the same mind with each other.”
- —In-game Encyclopedia
A sproutling can be seen hanging outside the main character's house in the very beginning of the game. He tells them the world can be shaped by their imagination. He gives the Colorblocks artifact to them.
The Flame of Hope[edit]
A sproutling complains of his aching belly to a nun in Gato Grottoes. It looks like he's been infected with a Popo Bug parasite. The nun wants to take it and sell it for a pretty penny. However, each time the lady tries to get her hands on the bug, the leafy guy jitters, stating it hurts, and runs away. In his distress, the sproutling bumped into a praying nun in the Temple of Healing, twisting her ankle. During the Jewel Hunter investigation, the protagonist retrace the steps left by the sproutling accompanying Sandra who disguised as a nun by spotting the leaves left on the ground. The bug is finally extracted by the Jewel Hunter near the Cancun Bird, moments before her escape with the Jumi core of Ruby.
Diddle's Letter[edit]
According to the sproutling hanging in central Domina, he saw Capella's missing partner Diddle being carried away by a large bird.
Seeing Double[edit]
One of the sproutling in Domina is seen being attacked by a mysterious doppelganger of the protagonist. They pluck three leaves from the leafy guy, threatening to take some more once they regrow. The nasty imposter do the same to another sproutling in the northern part of town, causing the little plant people to be scared of the hero if they interact with them. The imposter is later revealed to be a Shadow Zero-One and is defeated by the protagonist.
The Cage of Dreams[edit]
A sproutling has collapsed in front of the hero's house, surrounded by Li'l Cactus and three others of his kin. One of them says he has been chosen to go the spiritual world to become part fo a big tree. The sproutling explains to Li'l Cactus that plants are all connected by their roots, even though they look like separate beings. If many plants rejoin the big tree in the spiritual dimension, then the tree will be revived in Fa'Diel.
Meanwhile, Nunuzac the sorcerer has trapped the chosen sproutling in a dream dimension. Belle tries to convince him to let the poor creature out, but Nunuzac replies Sproutlings should stay as they are and not become one with the sacred tree, since Nunuzac saw was peoplekind was able to do when they sought to harness the tree's power in the past. Pokiehl then tries to reason with the circular sorcerer, saying his friend's views of the world in incomplete, as love is what fuels bliss by sharing it. After much debating, Nunuzac finally complies and teleport the main character to the dimention he trapped the sproutling. The leafy guy remembers his task of becoming the new Mana Tree by focusing on the light of love on the tree's wounds.
Legend of Mana[edit]
After defeating the dark side of the Goddess of Mana, a lone sproutling glides down in front of the protagonist, claiming they will heal the Tree of Mana. Meanwhile, every Sproutling from Fa'Diel is called to reunite with the Mana Tree, as they are all connected to its roots. As they don't have a soul the Sproutling never truly disappear, contrary to mortals. Niccolo is seen wondering how he can make a profit once all the little green guys are gone and proceeds to visit the main character's house.

General information[edit]
Physical appearance[edit]
Personality[edit]
The enigmatic guardians of the Tree of Mana, Sproutlings are said to share a singular consciousness, a fact that is made evident through the linear personality that all such beings appear in Legend of Mana. In general, Sproutlings are a rather placid group of beings, roaming the domains of the towns they inhabit in a carefree manner. Their placidity is especially evident in The Cage of Dreams, where, the protagonist's resident Sproutling, despite having been abducted by Nunuzac, remains undeterred in maintaining its tranquil, genteel demeanor even after being found and rescued.
Speaking to any Sproutling reveals naturalistic leanings that are to be expected of beings that have established a symbiotic relationship with the Tree of Mana; they constantly talk about their love of various aspects of nature, including the "wind" and the "leaves."
Despite seemingly being ethereal in the steadfastness of their serenity, Sproutlings have proven to be just as capable of experiencing physical pain as the other living beings residing in Fa'Diel do. In The Flame of Hope, for one, a Sproutling enters a state of frenzied panic due to stomach pains induced by a Popo bug parasitical attack. Seeing Double further supports this, as the panicked responses to the faux-Hero/Heroine's plucking of Sproutling leaves throughout Domina reveal.
