Mattocks, spellled Mattok in the original release, are single-use items that appear in Final Fantasy Adventure and its remake, Adventures of Mana. They do not appear in Sword of Mana. Mattocks are sold at shops in packs of seven for 60 GP, and can be sold for 28 GP. They are used to break fragile rocks, pots, and cracked walls, which is required to progress through the dungeons.

When Sumo acquires the Morning Star, Mattocks become redundant, because the Morning Star does not break after destroying an obstacle.
