Trials of Mana
A Chosen one was selected by Faerie to gather the elementals and wielding the fabled blade against the evil forces who sought to release Mana power contained within each stone to open the portal to the Sanctuary of Mana. Aided by their comrades, their ultimately failed to prevent their enemy to use the sword to break the seals on the Mana Stones, ushering a new era of despair. Faerie pleaded the party to defeat each benevodon before they combine into an indestructible chimera and they started venturing all over Fa'Diel to locate them.
Land Umber was found deep within the gem valley of Daria, where he attacked the party with herculean might. Fortunately, the earth benevodon was eventually defeated.
Children of Mana
The recent Mana Surge turned Land Umber into a Malevodon by combining him with Fiegmund to create Landmund. The monstrosity was fought in the Ice Citadel under the watchful eye of the Mana Lord, but was eventually defeated, turning the two benevodons into their original states.
Some time after the incident, Gnome asked the protagonist to ask Land Umber about various topics concerning world. The hero headed back to where they had fought the Malevodon to meet with the spirit of the earth benevodon and has their questions answered.
At the end of the game, the eight benevodons joined forces to seal Illusia Isle from being found in the mortal realm. It is hinted that the island is was becamed of the Sanctuary of Mana in Trials of Mana.
An optional quest only accessible by completing the game makes the protagonist warp deep into the Cosmic Rift to meet with the eight benevodons for the last time. They gift them the ultimate Gem called Mystic Blessing.
