A guileless, artless individual by nature, Florina is depicted as a character who is mild and polite in her mannerisms, a fact that is evident right when she is first introduced in Fluorite, where she quietly guides the Hero/Heroine to Pandora's Box to assist her.
This nature of Florina's has, in turn, resulted in her being rather tractable, readily submitting to the desires of others without questioning their purpose. This fact is first proven through her submission to Diana's exploitation of her power to shed the Jumi's signature tears of panacea. Florina's sanctioning of Alex to hide her in Pandora's Box also proves this, as she unquestioningly accepts his faux-justification of protecting her from the jewel hunter, never once suspecting both individuals to be one and the same person.
Despite this, Florina is not entirely witless. For one, she is renowned for her kindness and benevolence, which is partially responsible for her choice to submit to Diana's demands; simply because she personally desires to alleviate the suffering of her people. This fact is also proven through Teardrop Crystal, where, following the miracle inspired by the Hero/Heroine's sacrifice, Florina urges the restored Jumi to connect their hearts to fashion a teardrop crystal for their benefactor.

Florina is a major supporting character in Legend of Mana and a recurring character in the Mana series.

Background

Florina is the Jumi of Fluorite and Clarius of the Jumi. She is the last the Jumi able to produce healing tears to quell ailments. It was for this reason Diana, Leader of the Jumi, used her powers to help cure fallen soldiers during the Deathbringer's army. This continuous weeping took a toll on her health and her core, as Jumi people who misused their abilities in the past met the same fate. Originally a Guardian to Lady Blackpearl, she sent her Knight on a quest to find the last Mana Stone. Alexandra became her Knight, but took the opportunity to kidnap her under everybody's noses, putting the whole city's survival at stake. Rubens went to search for Lady Blackpearl, but unbeknownst to him, she had transformed into Pearl and lost all of her memory in the process. Meanwhile, Alexandra had put the ailing Jumi of Fluorite in deep sleep inside Pandora's Box and changed her identity as Alex, a mild-mannered Jeweller.

History

Legend of Mana

“A Guardian who was the Clarius in the Bejeweled City of Jumi. The burden of healing all the wounded cores of the Jumi has caused her own core to fall apart.”
In-game Encyclopedia

Fluorite

Florina is discovered by the protagonist in the backstore of Alex's jewelry store. She claims he put her inside Pandora's Box as a way to avoid the Jewel Hunter's gaze. However, she is suffering of her bad dreams and Belle the witch appears to confront her about this. The witch explains the main character was probably drawn to her bad case of nightmares and tells them they must enter her mind to slay the bug responsible for her bad dreams. The protagonist is warped into her dreams, and encounters Elazul, Lady Blackpearl and Sandra in a desert area. Blackpearl confronts Sandra, claiming she's here to bring her to the Underworld, but collapses before doing so. The protagonist defeats a Jewel Beast nearby, breaking the nightmare spell, and returns to the real world. Relieved from her torment, Florina falls asleep.

Teardrop Crystal

Inspector Boyd hasn't seen Elazul and Pearl for a while and has stopped to St. Mana Church in Domina to investigate. He tasks the protagonist to go to Geo and find a vacant shop there that used to sell Jumi cores. The two venture to Geo and enter the jewelry shop, Boyd stating that Nunzac used to come here to buy Jumi cores. The mouse detective is mysteriously pushed away from the entrance, only allowing the main character to enter. Inside, the hero reunites with Pearl and Elazul, the latter stating that they've been doing some investigating of their own. Apparently, everyone thinks this place is abandoned and nobody knows about Alex's true identity. The team decides to search the area for clues, and find a portal inside a magic box. Here they find Florina, Clarius of the Jumi, who tell Pearl to keep her powers to herself at the expense of her core. The Jumi of Fluorite explains that she is going to return Pearl to her original form, as there is something she wants to ask her. The Pearl Jumi transforms into Lady Blackpearl, and Florina asks her what has become of the Mana Sword, the key to unbinging the Mana stone. Florina think that the sword she gave to Elazul was the fabled one, but the Black Jumi clarifies that it is only a sword beloning to an ancient tribe of nomads who could see into the past and imbued the sword with vision of bygone ages. Elazul also wants Lady Blackpearl to explain how her black core turned to white when he held you in his arms in the desert and how she can change her core back and forth. Lady Blackpearl is then forced to reveal her past to Elazul.

Pearl was born from her damaged core and despite her wound, she tried to shoulder Florina's burdens. The Jumi of Fluorite tells Lady Blackpearl that she mus now stop Alexandra, the one who betrayed all Jumi, but without harming her, so she can heal her troubled heart. Blackpearl refuses to do so, as she believes Alexandra should be slain instead. Florina also asks Elazul not to interfere, which angers the Jumi Knight. The Clarius explains that is Blackpearl loses, the Jumi will be doomed, but she have another purpose in mind for him. The Jumi of Lapis Lazuli reaffirms his beliefs of protecting Pearl and Blackpearl alike, despite whatever she says. Florina then turns her attention to the protagonist and gives him/her the Jumi Staff Artifact, before vanishing and telling the protagonist to protect Elazul at all costs. The main character has the opportunity to either take Pearl or Elazul to tag along. One his/her choice is made, the duo enter the Bejeweled City.

Now a the top of Etancel, they reach the Chamber of the Clarius and hear a distressed voice coming from inside. Here they find a weakened Florina lying on her throne, accompanied by the jewel hunter.

Sandra is revealed to be Alexandra, Jumi Knight of Florina. Elazul confronts her by wanting to know her motives for hunting down Jumi. Sandra replies that revenge is only a part of her motivation and invites the Lord of Jewels to clarify the rest. Sandra claims that her master has the power to fuse together everything he swallows, like a black hole. He has already swallowed nine hundred ninety-eight cores and it will only take two more to save Florina. The Lord of Jewels proceeds to swallow Pearl's core as he tries to reassure Elazul that all Jumi will become one. The party then battles the Lord of Jewels, but this does nothing to stop him. Alexandra then sacrifices herself to her master, giving him her core to tally a thousand. The Lord of Jewels transforms into a giant abomination that immediately attacks the party. After a grueling fight, the Lord of Jewels vanishes, leaving only Florina and Elazul as the last members of the Jumi race. The protagonist sheds a single tear, turning him/her into stone, making all the other Jumi reappear in the process. A newly borned Diana, explains that a teadrop crystal is made when our concern for others transcend societal boundaries. Elazul then tries to convice all Jumi to give the protagonist a bit of their power to revive him. As they proceed to do so, they summon a giant storm centering around the protagonist house. Inside, the twin sorcerers worry about its intensity. Bud recalls a saying about Jumi's cries summoning rain. The two fall asleep, only to wake up to a clear sky. The quest ends as Bud and Lisa welcome the protagonist home, accompanied by Elazul and Pearl.
