A Siren's Song
Elle was locked in a giant birdcage on top of a cliff in Madora Beach by imperial soldiers who claimed her singing was responsible for their shipwreck. Meanwhile, her friends Monique and Flameshe desperately attempt to free her from her prison. Elle feels guilty for sinking the army's ship, but Monique doesn't believe this, as she only sang once and sailors are always pinning their misfortunes on them. Elle admits she likes being cooped up here, but this remark angers Monique, replying she has the right to be free like everyone. The captured siren remarks it's no different than her friend being in her atelier in Lumina all day. Monique remarks that freedom is inside her heart, and right now Elle is shutting herself off from that. Monique convinces Flameshe to let the hero inside her cage and battle a giant plant monster. They free Elle, but she states she wants to stay a while longer here.

Gilbert: Love is Blind
The romantic poet Gilbert is seen in Polpota Harbor, mistaking Elle for Monique, his previous love interest. He starts serenading to her, but she doesn't show any signs of interest, asking for the protagonist to return to her birdcage in Madora Beach. Unbeknownst to them, the centaur tracks them down and start singing outside her nest. Invigorated by seeing her beloved going outside to look for him, he showers her with his love. He then spots a ship on the horizon and tells Elle they should go onboard. He then  grabs the siren and runs away, leaving the protagonist to look for them.

The unlikely couple is seen aboard the SS Buccaneer, where Gilbert encourages Elle to sing her love to him. She replies she cannot, but Gilbert reminds her that the wings of a siren who doesn't sing will wither. She still refuses to do so, telling him the ship wil sink if she does. The pirate penguins suddenly tie the poet to a mast, thinking they will become rich if they sell the peculiar animal. Elle finally sings to help Gilbert out of his misery, which attracts a sea creature that attacks the ship. After taking the monster down, the pirate crew accuses the siren of trying to destroy the ship. Gilbert presses his beloved to fly away, but she adamantly refuses to leave him to die. Cap'n Tusk tells his crew to stop their shenanigans and let the centaur free.

Gilbert: Resume for Love
Gilbert has been turned into stone by Kathinja, a professor at Geo's Academy of Magic. He was then sold to Krissie, the proprietor of the Palace of Arts, then sold again to the Diggers in the Ulkan Mines. His poetic voices reverbs back in the hero's head, stating he misses his time spent with Monique and wishes to see her again. The protagonist go to Lumina to inform Monique about Gilbert, but she tells them that's none of her business anymore. The players follows her to Madora Beach where she is seen relaxing with Elle in her birdcage. Even though they think of him as weird, They agree to help him by asking the sorcerers at the Academy of Magic. They learn the spell necessary to undo the enchantment and proceed to chant it in front of the statue in the Ulkan Mines. Gilbert returns back to normal and is ever thankful of his true love rescuing him.

Elle was the deuteragonist of the two-parter Siren Arc side stories: Siren Arc I: Flora & Fugue and Siren Arc II: Bone & Brimstone. In the first part, the narrator Pokiehl tells of the meek but elegant siren selling her golden voice to a witch but to being guilt-striken from sinking an imperial ship. However, her health steadily declined afterward since a siren's life is tied to her magical voice. He friend Flameshe couldn't bear to see her withering away, an so embarked into a journey to restore her friend's voice as it was. As she visits her friend in her birdcage on Madora Beach to bring her some flowers to help her replenish the wiltered one in her wings, Flameshe sees Elle collapsing on the ground. The mermaid tells her ailing friend to take it easy while she swims away to seek out a special flower that will restore her friend back to health.

After visiting a snow witch in the Fieg Snowfields, she brings Elle an icy flower to lift her spirits up. While the bloom is gorgeous and the gesture is really nice, it doesn't bring the poor siren's voice back. Elle thinks she might need a musician to help her getting into singing again, which gives Flameshe the idea of looking for a poet in Polpota Harbor.

After being sidetracked by Gilbert's kidnapping, the mermaind carries ther centaur poet on her back all the way to her friend's birdcage. Despite him running his mouth and his flirtatious nature annoying Flameshe, the poet is revealed to have a melodious voice.

In the second story, Pokiehl tells of the poor mermaid still finding a cure for her withering friend. She learns from a Shadole about a ghost roaming the beaches around Polpota Harbor. Flameshe tells her friend Elle of this fact, which saddens her that a spirit is wandering aimlessly on earth. She thinks of giving it some of the flowers the mermaid gave her, but this angers her friend greatly, believing she took the blooms for granted. Flameshes storms off, leaving Elle in a guilty state.

Elle comes to apologize to her friend upon hearing she's been lurking inside a cave nearby. However, Flameshe was actually captured by the aforementioned ghost named Thona under The Deathbringer's orders. She lets herself be taken, fearing that her friend might get caught up in this, too. Wondering why she cannot find her mermaid friend, Elle finds the flowers on the ground and a smell of terror reeking the room. Fearing the worst, the siren finds the witch she sold her voice to in the Academy of Magic. Elle tells she needs to find whose scent clinging to flowers this belongs to. Thesenis replies this belongs to one of the Deathbringer's soldiers. Upon learning he took her mermaid friend, the witch explains to Elle that when a mermaid is deprived from water for too long, she will burst into flames and assume the form of an Anima Sola. Such flame is able to destroy everything it touches, even its bearer's souls and memories. The undying emperor must have sought this method to quell his tormented soul and find eternal rest. The witch agrees to lead the siren to her friend should she gaze at the Deathbringer's face once again. She gives Elle's voice back to him, allowing the siren to sing and open a portal to her undying emperor's lair.

Elle finds her best friend before the Deathbringer, but it's aleady to late, as her body has started to dry out and catch fire. The undying emperor tries to get into the inferno, but his body refuses to burst into flames. He turns his wrath to Flameshe, but Elle rushes between them, taking the blow herself. After besting the emperor in a fight, he finds no respite being engulfed in fire. Thesenis is surprised to see this, and is saddened to see her poor husband wincing even in the afterlife. Elle begs the witch to cure her friend, but she replies that this feat is beyond her capabilities. Thesenis adds that the only thing that might quell the flames is to hold her dearest friend in his arm while they burn together. Elle doesn't believe at first to be her best friend since all she does is making mistakes, but she gathers up the courage and leap into the flames. She succesfully douse out the fire, but her wings burns as as result. Flameshe laments the fact she did all she could to help them grow back to health, but Elle replies she did the same thing for her. Flameshe then sacrifices her tail and her friend's wings to Thesenis so she can save her from burning to death. However, the witch states this is not enough, as only her deep friendship would make her accept the bargain. Both of them accept as they are reincarnated and her memories erased.

According to Pokiehl, a famous songstress now roams the streets, hesitantly looking for someone after each performance.

Recruitment
Elle is the most difficult companion to recruit in Legend of Mana. Many players never discover Elle's existence because the prerequisite quests to obtain her are quite intricate.
In order to recruit Elle, you must complete the quest "A Siren's Song," which is a difficult quest to unlock. To begin it, you must first complete three other quests: "Faeries' Light" (in order to meet Monique), "Summer Lovin," and "Drowned Dreams". The fastest way to get through these quests, right from the start of the game, is as follows:
* Place Domina and start "The Lost Princess" by talking to Elazul.
* For completing "The Lost Princess," you will receive the Stone Eye and the Firefly Lamp. Place the Firefly Lamp and enter Lumina.
* Complete "The Faeries' Light." This will get you the Trembling Spoon and, if you have two or fewer AFs at the time, the Sand Rose. You need to get the Sand Rose. Also, this completes the first necessary quest for "A Siren's Song."
* Place the Sand Rose to create Duma Desert and complete "Reach for the Stars." This will get you the Torch of Coral.
* Place the Torch of Coral to create Madora Beach and complete "Summer Lovin'." This will get you the Rusty Anchor and completes the second necessary quest for "A Siren's Song."
* Place the Rusty Anchor to create Polpota Harbor and complete "Drowned Dreams." This completes the third necessary quest for "A Siren's Song."
With this done, return to Lumina and enter Crescent Moon Alley in order to start the "A Siren's Song" quest. Upon completing this quest, you may return to the Birdcage Lighthouse at any time and talk to Elle to get her to come along with you.
Overall
* WaterDrum (Bubble Burst) Undine magic, Donut Lock targeting, causes Freeze
* WaterFlute (Splash Blade) Undine magic, Sphere Lock targeting
* WindHarp (Cyclone Spear) Jinn magic, Fan Lock targeting, causes SKL Down
* WindMarimba (Wind Viper) Jinn magic, Line Lock targeting
Elle starts out at Level 11 (?), and uses no weapons. She uses only instruments to attack, specifically the Water Drum, Water Flute, Wind Harp, and Wind Marimba. Being the only companion with two "high powered" spells (Bud and Lisa only have one each), she is probably the most powerful caster out of all the companions. Her HP stays relatively low and she is not at all suited for close range combat, but her spell power and magical defense are unmatched. She can quickly dispatch groups of enemies with her wind songs and they also offer great knockback distance, which can be useful in a pinch. Her Water Drum can cause Freeze (though only to enemies weak to Undine magic) and her Wind Harp can cause SKL Down (only to enemies weak to Jinn magic). The Water Flute and the Wind Marimba do not cause status effects, but they are much stronger than her other two instruments to make up for it.
Elle's Synchro Effect is Elemental Shield, and it greatly raises the magical resistances of her teammates.
Trivia
* Sirens are from Greek mythology and are notorious for enchanting people at sea with their beautiful songs. Anyone who listens to a siren's song loses their focus on reality. Ships were have said to crash at sea because sailors would lose consciousness and their ships would crash into the rocks, not because the singing damages ships.
* Sirens were believed to reside on an Isle of Flowery Fields, which her (and Monique's) flowery wings are meant to represent.
* Elle, Flameshe, and Monique may represent the "siren trio" in Greek mythology. Sirens can also be mermaids, and it is hinted that Flameshe may be a siren as well, since she possesses a beautiful singing voice herself.
* Elle is a type of siren that appears to be part bird, part humanoid, and part plant.
* Elle is French for "she" and Greek for "sun ray, shining light, God's promise, and God is my oath".
* The company ELLE, which is a women's French fashion magazine, was credited in the Legend of Mana credits. This presents the possibility that Elle's character design and name may have been inspired from the ELLE magazine.
* The Siren's Song was vocalized by Saki Mizutani.
* The Siren's Song has been translated as The Dream of Distant Days, Spirit's Song, Everyday Dream, and the Siren's Song. The true title of the song is not clear.

A Siren's Song[edit]

Elle was locked in a giant birdcage on top of a cliff in Madora Beach by imperial soldiers who claimed her singing was responsible for their shipwreck. Meanwhile, her friends Monique and Flameshe desperately attempt to free her from her prison. Elle feels guilty for sinking the army's ship, but Monique doesn't believe this, as she only sang once and sailors are always pinning their misfortunes on them. After taking the monster down, the pirate crew accuses the siren of trying to destroy the ship. Gilbert presses his beloved to fly away, but she adamantly refuses to leave him to die. Cap'n Tusk tells his crew to stop their shenanigans and let the centaur free.

Gilbert: Resume for Love[edit]

Gilbert has been turned into stone by Kathinja, a professor at Geo's Academy of Magic. He was then sold to Krissie, the proprietor of the Palace of Arts, then sold again to the Diggers in the Ulkan Mines. His poetic voices reverbs back in the hero's head, stating he misses his time spent with Monique and wishes to see her again. • WaterDrum (Bubble Burst) Undine magic, Donut Lock targeting, causes Freeze
 • WaterFlute (Splash Blade) Undine magic, Sphere Lock targeting
 • WindHarp (Cyclone Spear) Jinn magic, Fan Lock targeting, causes SKL Down
 • WindMarimba (Wind Viper) Jinn magic, Line Lock targeting

Trivia[edit]

 • Sirens are from Greek mythology and are notorious for enchanting people at sea with their beautiful songs. Anyone who listens to a siren's song loses their focus on reality. Ships were have said to crash at sea because sailors would lose consciousness and their ships would crash into the rocks, not because the singing damages ships.
 • Sirens were believed to reside on an Isle of Flowery Fields, which her (and Monique's) flowery wings are meant to represent.
 • Elle, Flameshe, and Monique may represent the "siren trio" in Greek mythology. Sirens can also be mermaids, and it is hinted that Flameshe may be a siren as well, since she possesses a beautiful singing voice herself.
 • Elle is a type of siren that appears to be part bird, part humanoid, and part plant.
 • Elle is French for "she" and Greek for "sun ray, shining light, God's promise, and God is my oath".
 • The company ELLE, which is a women's French fashion magazine, was credited in the Legend of Mana credits. This presents the possibility that Elle's character design and name may have been inspired from the ELLE magazine.
 • The Siren's Song was vocalized by Saki Mizutani.
 • The Siren's Song has been translated as The Dream of Distant Days, Spirit's Song, Everyday Dream, and the Siren's Song. The true title of the song is not clear.
