Riesz is one of the six protagonists in Trials of Mana.

Background

Riesz is the Captain of Laurent's Amazon Guard and daughter of King Joster. Her mother dying after giving birth to Elliot made a profound impact to Riesz's mind, after which she swore to protect and raise her brother to the best of her capacity. Since then, she continuously upheld her responsibilities as captain of the guard and Elliot's tutor.

History

Trials of Mana

Riesz in his opening scene
“HIGHBORN CAPTAIN OF LAURENT'S AMAZON GUARD -- Riesz is the young princess of the mountainous kingdom of Laurent and captain of the renowned Amazon guard. She has a will of iron and down-to-earth manner. Though some might call her stubborn, Riesz is always there to lend a hand to those who need it. She lost her mother as a child and since then has tried to help raise her little brother Elliot. Her topmost priorities are her father, brother, and kingdom.”

After coming back from her daily training, the princess of Laurent starts looking for his brother around the citadel as it is time for his training. Turns out he has been greeted by a group of mysterious performers on the other side of the fortress, coercing him to shutting down to wind seal that creates the powerful gusts surrounding the citadel, making it impenetrable. The two strangers are actually revealed to be Nevarlan spies, and they together succeed in making the fortification fall to the hand of Nevarl. During the debacle, Riesz loses sight of her brother, the latter being captured by the enemy. With her father's dying words, she reluctantly leaves her scorched homeland in search of answers, deciding to seek the guidance of the Priest of Light in Wendel.

Riesz shares many story elements with Hawkeye, a thief from Nevarl Fortress, the nation who attacked Laurent. If either of them is chosen as the main protagonist, the main villain will be the Dark Prince and the last dungeon will be the Dark Castle. After completing her quest, Riesz reunites with Elliot inside the citadel, promising to rebuilt the fortress together.

General information

Physical appearance

Riesz is a young woman with long blonde hair tied into a low ponytail with a green ribbon and blue eyes. In her default Amazon class, Riesz wears a green dress, fringed at the waist with a low neckline, and a winged coronet with a gem in the center. She also wears green shoulder pads and brown/purplish brown boots and fingerless gloves. Around her wrist is another green ribbon, a memento of her mother. She wields spears and other polearms as her weapons of choice.

Personality

Riesz is soft-spoken, yet stoic and determined to accomplish what she sets her mind to. As a mother figure to her own brother, she is shown to be firm with him as well as highly protective of him. Perhaps because of her royal upbringing, she is exceptionally formal and polite when speaking with others. She prefers to avoid involving others in matters of state or her personal struggles, begrudgingly accepting the aid given to her on multiple occasions.

Profile and statistics

In the 2D version, Riesz boasts a relatively balanced stat distribution, only lacking a bit in her luck stat. Should the player take her light path, the amazon princess is granted stat-boosting moves and the ability to use one powerful summon. Her dark classes have the exact opposite traits, dispensing instead impeding moves that decrease enemies' stats, along with learning a powerful summon.

In the HD remake, Riesz is still the most balanced playable character, now having above-average Luck and subpar Intellect. Her default class grants abilities focused on boosting attack and defense power. Her light classes are geared toward support abilities that target every party member's stats. Her dark classes doesn't seem to center around a particular theme, except making buffs and debuffs extra potent.

Character Class

Below is a list of Riesz's classes. The first class change takes place at Level 18, while the second one takes place at Level 38, with the latter requiring specific items acquired from ??? Seeds.
